Commodore USA and its "Amigas"

Not my favorite design. It's OK...
It seems like a bit like a mix between the A1000 and CDTV in style, but in metal..
Not something I'm interested in...

Doesn't bother me at all tho.
Just a company trying to make money. They bought the rights.
It doesn't change how I like my current Amigas...

I do agree tho; I think if Commodore had stayed around somehow, they'd be making PCs...
And what's worse, I think they'd be Windows PCs.. ;-)
I swear I remember reading an interview with Dave Haynie where he hinted at that...
(Can't find it tho, so maybe I nightmare'd it.. ;-))

NT, Commodore was going to use NT, because it was already ported to RISC.
and yes, Commodore was already making PC's, so a natural assumption would have been merging the 2 lines of computers at some point, especially since the windows PC "won" the "war".
We all have to face facts, even if Commodore survived to this day and was thriving, the Amiga would still have been a "nich" computer and would have been killed off at some time. It could not have evolved with time as Motorola could not keep up with Intel. Apple PROVED this point with the Mac platform. Even so far as to going to IBM to make the chips.


Now, back to the case..
Looks like not enough room under to slide a keyboard in, which was the whole bloody point of the A1000 case in the first place. Are they even offering an aluminum keyboard to go with this?

I’d say that thing looks awful, but honestly it’s too amateur and generic to look more than just boring.

I will say I’ve seen much better case mods by other Amiga forum denizens.

CUSA isn't 'trying to make money', they are trying to sell PCs for double thier actual value, and trying to milk Commodore enthusiasts in order to do so.

yeah, they bought the rights to the commodore brand, this is what should be known as *a bad investment*

but people are simple minded and will throw money at things that look pretty... regardless of the fact they could order the cases themselves and install a mini itx pc in it for 1/2 the price.

when i built computers for people in the 90s i would typically charge $100-150 for the service, not $500-1000. (more often than not also saving them $500-1000 over the Compaqs/Dells/Gateways of the day at the same time as well)

Well, I happen to think it looks quite nice...

It looks nice but it doesnt do Amiga justice.

Personally I'd like to see new machines made based on the 040/060 and power PC accelerators which are hardware compatible directly with the classic machines. That'd do the name more justice than these x86 disasters baring the Amiga branding.

I had to laugh at my step brother (He works for a well known ex amiga games company). He actually thought the Commodore Amiga PC was the new Amiga, :wooha:.

Not to mention, we actually had or have an Excellent (according to the old guys at AMICUE) x86 port of the Amiga OS called Amithon, but greed and politics messed that up.

Well, that's one alternate reality.

Another would be Amiga with a good management, advertising and correct market placement to start with. It could have become the Macintosh of today, or even challenged PCs.

Just like fixing a couple of bad mistakes in Acorn could have put the Archimedes in a way better spot. They are still around in the sense the ARM processor is everywhere though. although Acorn is no more. Resurrected by someone who plan to sell ARM based machines with the brand name. Well, at least thats related to the IP.

We, those who truly value what the Amiga was about, are 0,01% (or even less) of the audience. They want to use the name, use cheap x86 hardware, cheap OS skin it and maximize on profit. The worst kind of business model but it works.

Suggesting a cooperation with A-Eon won't work as they are against a x86 platform, for custom hardware, but are also overcharging.

Let's face it.. Game over.. Days have past and with those two companies I do not expect a revival of any kind.

IF people would do the correct thing and buy NOTHING from CUSA they would be forced to sell off the Commodore 'property' to avoid bankruptcy.... or IN bankruptcy it would be auctioned off....either way, it would be far far better..

Even DEAD Commodore/Amiga names are better than ones prostituted out as they are doing.

Agreed. and what's annoying about it is non-C= enthusiasts think its the real C=. I can't even begin to count how many times someone has emailed me the link or sent me the link on Facebook to both this thing and the C64 one. They send it to me because they know that I am a C= enthusiast. I appreciate them trying to give me a heads up...but it's just not C= and what they are selling is not C=. And the PCs inside of those cases aren't any better than the PC I currently own and I bought mine for more than half the price.
