Ok guys now that's frustrating seems Jens can't get hardware to the UK due to him not being able to find away to sort out the tax. Typical just when he released an amazing new product. Ohh well will have to be patient as he is loosing money I would guess he will sort it asap. If any one here has figured out the new system can they advise him...

Even before UK, when you were from a country outside EU, you should pay for that VAT (apart from more expensive postal rates and/or customs). So, as UK decided to leave EU, the same thing applies. Wish my country also leave that EU-hoax, only one country is getting a real benefit against other EU members.

Let's hope they get it sorted in the next few years.

Something has to give - there are businesses both sides of the channel (mine included) who are paralysed by all the red tape - the importer of record, the duties, the paperwork, who to pay the tax too. There are ways of moving product and there are plenty of 3rd parties who will help the process but that costs money that is hard to absorb into the price - and the duty and carrier processing charges means there is only so much the buyer/seller can accept between them.

We have found its likely worth the effort wholesale sending or receiving goods by the pallet/container - but the amount of steps involved in shipping an item to an individual has been more of a challenge. We hopefully are close to a solution at my company but with so much conflicting information, we are always second guessing the processes we are putting into place.

I thought the UK had a deal with the EU but it is a deal in all but name. I would hope now the boil has been burst as it were, and the panic is over, there will be a rethink on some of the rules. The only thing that has put an extra spanner in the works of course is the vaccine war of words - that is going to raise tensions like nothing else, so until there is a lot more people vaccinated, I can't see any follow up trade talks whilst this is looming over us.

The red tape comprising of import/export taxes, extra costly paperwork etc are just convenient ways for those in charge to fleece us of more of our money.

Once Joe Public shops more within their own borders and avoiding ordering from afar, then perhaps there will be a rethink from the money men.

Until then, watch this space.....and continue to pay thru the nose I guess

Yeah as normal it's the Westminster Bubble of people so rich they really don't care or want to care about us till they want something. Even the Wags are loaded off the back of over-taxed UK Citizens.. But anyway back on topic lets see if Jens gets his paperwork sorted so we can resume buying. Funny though I can still get stuff from China and the States without to much fuss,,,, Just saying is this EU UK speak for !!! well what?

Other EU companies have got their stuff sorted when it comes to exporting to the UK. It's his own fault for not getting his house in order before the new rules came into effect.

FWIW I have purchased Amiga stuff from Spain and Germany this year so if they can do it then why not Jens?

I ordered a couple of A1200.net cases recently from Alenea Computers who are based in Germany and I was surprised how quickly I received them and the total cost came to about £185. iComp are missing out on a lot of trade because of their decision. I can understand their stance in December but 3 months on things are settling down.

I think maybe this is Jens with no time to sort it out and no real will yet so I guess we in the UK don't use his site enough. Shame really but hey my A500 will have to wait for a while longer till I can track down the part I need from his store..

The thing is there's an additional cost to register with the UK for VAT and also cost and extra admin per transaction, he might have decided for the amount of business he does with the UK it's not worth the extra cost and work associated with trading with the UK. He's would not be the only business taking that stance, I believe our post brexit system is quite unusual compared to how the rest of the world do international business.

Yep I think maybe we need a bod that understand the new system to explain what has made it so hard for Jens to do business in the UK.

Basically, as I understand it Jens would need to register with HMRC and get a UK VAT number and collect UK VAT on all items sold to UK, he will need to complete tax returns and pay the VAT to the HMRC. He will need to complete customs paperwork in each sale, I believe it is more complicated on the export as though we still have tarrif free trading with the EU this doesn't include manufactured items where the bulk of the materials are from outside the EU, so assuming he gets an element of those from China for example the items if sold to the UK could also attract customs duty. You see how it gets very complicated very quickly.

Very good explaination.

France doesn't "want out". As you wrote yourself, let's keep this thread about businesses and the issues they may face with customs barriers.

Were posts deleted in this thread? especially at the start things don't make sense with people seemingly answering posts that are not there.

Why couldn't he just leave the responsibility for customs and taxes with buyer, rather than not shipping anything at all? That's what most stores in EU does for Norway, which is not a member of EU either. Individual computer is however registered with the Norwegian VAT on eCommerce register and have actually been shipping to Norway duty payed for a year now :)

That's a possibility, but what can happen is the customer gets the duty/tax+postal service admin fee and goes "how much? I am not paying that!!" then it gets returned to sender (hopefully) and the seller has lost the postage fee and potentially some payment feee funds as well.
