Well most of us know the 16mb/sec advertised is complete rubbish but I have seen benchmarks of up to 10mb/sec, I just wondered how this was achieved?

I've just hooked up an 8gb Kingspec IDE SSD to my FastATA MkI and I'm only getting 6mb/sec @PIO4, I'm surprised that I'm 10mb/sec short of the advertised speed.

IIRC I was able to get a little bit more when running an ACA1230, approx 6.5mb/sec... And that was with a 133x CF card!

In this rig I'm running a Blizzard 1230MkIV by the way. I know IDE is CPU intensive but I don't recall getting better from my 1260's... (I remember my Apollo 1240 crippled the speed down to about 4.5mb/sec...)

Would be interested to hear what speeds other FastATA users are getting and what scsi.device/file system you are using.

On this rig I have the scsi.device in BB2 (running OS3.9) and I'm using the PFS3.

Overall 6mb/sec is about 3.5x faster then I was getting so I shouldn't grumble!

I'm getting round about 7.2mb I have an actual hdd with OS3.9 and ACA1230-56Mhz

Nice

I think the ACA is giving that little extra boost since it boosts the native IDE to over 2mb/sec :)

im getting about 9-10 ish meg a sec.
i think most peaple could get around 8-10 depending on drive speed etc.
but i dont know wether it matters anyway because of it being ide and very cpu intensive.

ive sort of got the feeling that elbox just qouted the ata max transfer from the spec at the time and it stuck, thats my take on it anyway.

ive seen someone say they got around 13 with a link to a sysinfo screen shot, there was mention of a modification, but when i asked about the "modification" there was no reply.

Feels like i get way lower mb/s then you guys, anything over PIO3 will give me read errors.

But for the fun of it i treid with POI5 just to check the benchmark and even then i cant get to 10mb/s

oops i thought most peaple was using sysinfo for raw speed tests, its always lower in sysspeed.

well, it makes it look better at least:lol:

That is probably a large cache on the harddisk - sadly Sysinfo isn't really designed to test hard-disk devices with any cache. even some of the older (8GB+) IDE Drives come with 2,4 or even 8MB of Cache

I find if I test my 120GB Samsung (32MB Cache) with Sysinfo, I get some ridiculous readings the first instance it tests the hard disk.

Sysinfo reported approximately 4MB per second.... sounds great except that its on native A1200 IDE with no patches. I found running it a couple of times brings down a base result of about 1.8MB per second.

Personally I prefer RawSpeed Controller Performance Test (RSCPT)

In the left graph you see the data throughput in seconds (about 1.65MB per second) and in the right graph you see the idle time (the free time of the CPU) - in this case the CPU is 91% free.

That is pretty impressive for a humble 7.5Mhz 68000 moto ;)

Non DMA (IDE or SCSI) really sux - I am surprised that no one has developed a DMA IDE controller (other than Masoboshi)

..... hmmmmm

Challenge Accepted!

I have got a modification here which I have had for about a year, but this is not the right time to show its speed, but expect benchmarks no one has seen before on a A1200.

Highest speed world record for A1200.

im wondering if all the ground lines are seperate for you guys?

i know that with usuall pc based pata you would use a 80 wire 40pin connector that has extra grounding wires.
this was able to up speeds from 33mbs to 66/100/133 ata spec..

im assuming your all limited by the ata controllers speed of aprox 16mb. so a extra wire solution probably wouldnt really be viable. but id imagine it could eek out those extra 2mb or so to get you atleast 1/2 way to the stated speed.

however i dont have any amiga's with hdd interfaces. every time i try to buy one for my 500+ they seem to go for a lot more money than i am willing to spend on that luxury.

id imagine some one has tried it already and it didnt help. or that they already have them or something similar, just thought id ask.

Using SysInfo 4.0 I get 6.5 megs/sec with a 32GB SDHC card (SFS partitions) and SD to IDE adapter and a Blizzard 1260. 3.1 WB and roms.

Well pleased with the results.

Yeah I guess the world just isn't ready to see how awesome you are

Another "I have the fastest Amiga" post from Delshay. Will you ever actually show your super fast BVision / BPPC / SATA mods, or are they, as we all suspect just unstable hacks or vapour?

You do need a accelerator card to speed up access but this thread is about how fast FastATA can go. Test was done with a fairly quick card 280Mhz but by no means is the quickest card. Here stability takes priority over speed and must pass a minimum 24HR test.

The modification I have here clearly speeds-up access to FastATA as its installing OS4.1 in record time.

On a seperate issue,I have already posted links to two screenshot of modification, but those two screenshot will be joined by a third with all benchmarks together.

Best score should belong to users with MC68030/56MHz.

First because 030 has fastest communication with motherboard (doesn't need complicated glue logic).
Second because its synchronous to motherboard, and there is minimal delay in access to Amiga chipsets.

So... check score for ACA 1230/56MHz.

P.S. Sorry for my English

So... check score for ACA 1230/56MHz.

Yep this is one fast little card (esp. if you use the correct version of ACATune).

With exactly the same hardware I got the highest HD speeds with the ACA 56Mhz (compared to an Apollo 1240/Apollo 1260/Blizzard 1260).

Are you using a version of ACATune other than 1.7?

what link? what screenshot? where even?

for god sake man, were not telepathic.

@steve,sorry mate.

No worries Roy, the thing is Delshay makes these claims but never gives any info on how they are achieved, not much point to brag that you have the fastest setup if you're not prepared to share the knowledge.

I'm looking for the ignore button lol.
