FastATA - How fast can you go?

Take it easy.

Some of you have already seen the benchmarks its over at amiga.org but you will have to wait until I upload the third screenshot.

FastATA top end speed is set by a 280Mhz card "yes" its access is faster than 300Mhz card at this time.

You will have to wait until both those screenshot have joined together to get a better picture of whats happening.

NOTE: none of my posting has nothing to do what's sitting here for just over a year this is a separate issue.

is the modification done on the fastata hardware or are you talking about and alteration of the timing on the bppc card?

I suspect that this is a motherboard and FAST ATA modification.


Elbox do release some very clever and wonderful products.... the Fast ATA is not one of them sadly - it is a horrid cludge of a device on the A1200 (the Zorro3 and ZIV versions are somewhat better)
 
I suspect speed can be gained by soldering the FastATA direct to the Motherboard, something I'm considering doing (or having done for me since I'm a danger to myself & others with a soldering Iron) to mine. This would also make it more secure for transporting :)

its up to you steve.
although you might find it a hindrance when it comes to fix it or the motherboard later on.

i just replaced the rom sockets for the round pin type,you could litrally pick the motherboard up by the fastata with no cable tie attached.(the round pin in the square hole always bothered me)
its a very good fit.
i dont know if it will grant extra speed but it deffenitly improves stability.:) for me anyway.

What Programs do you use for testing as i only get about 4.6 mb/s on my fully loaded A4000 in workbench with Os3.9 BB2,if i start diskspeed before wb loads i get about 5.3 mb/s.Does the Fast ata not use its own scsi.device in the rom im speaking about the Z3 A400 Fastata hear.ok can this be speeded up.

Waiting today for the Newer Transcend 16GB Cf so will send results through when ive set it up what file systems are you all using as these are also factors in the diffrent speed Results.

Well thats a good point; File Systems and device drivers will alter transmission speed, With this in mind perhaps a proforma to show what is working where

I'm more intrigued as to why you apparently don't want to share your speedup hack with the greater community. Sharing knowledge gained is how we keep this community moving forward with the Amiga.

Screenshots are one thing; however, we like hardware pr0n even better...:)

Have you tried without the "Additional : HS Maths installed" ?

Tried to register to be able to download it but the page form did not work for me in some wierd way so i gues i have to wait for a mail respond from the creator and then i can see for myself if that helps.

Your are right it shouldn't, however since SFS has specific 020/030 libraries as well 040/060 libraries, I thought it best to mention.

The OS is a standard build that I use on all my OS3.9 capable Amiga's I should mention that ALL the SFS formatted devices are actually using the 020/030 library version as standard and this may change the transmission speed when installed on a more capable 040/060 accelerator device.

I should also point out I have yet to test PFS and without HS Maths Libraries installed.
 
The interesting thing about IDE is not so much the transfer speed but its load on the CPU which is massive.

I'm running an IdeFix Express in my A1200 with a 16GB SSD module using PFS3 (060 version). I'm pretty happy with my transfer rate but I'd love to be able to buy an FPGA module the took some of the CPU strain away from my 060 :)
 
Don't worry I will post screenmode with benchmarks soon. Modification to FastATA was done some time ago,where here it does not use the second daughter card,but this has nothing to do with the speed but more to do with multiple removals. There is a second modification to speed up access but will not be revealed at this time.

Even though my computer does not need it,I am testing the next high speed memory access. I am having heat problems but I think I may have got on top of this.

High speed memory access helps FastATA along with CPU speed,but there's something else here that's helping its performance.

All above is part of AGP speed on Blizzard,expect some amazing benchmarks you never seen before.

Here's a reminder of things to come. NOTE: this will affect G-REX
