I only had to rewrite the graphics and screen layout and a few other bits. The main core was left as the original.

The actual program was lifted off a Toshiba MSX basic program.

And there are three other parts to it :D

I see you got the font installed

To be honest any good book on writing adventures will help you understand the principles.

The hard part is making it work in whichever language you program in and on whatever machine you develop on and for.

ive been playing with inform 7 for the most of the day and love it but its of little use for the Amiga which is what i want to write games for.

no doubt they will be rubbish but its fun learning :-)

Updated to version 2.0 now.

all update :-)

how the hell do i work it :-)

If you've got it installed correctly :D

Then it's time to read the manual ;)

Have a look on Aminet for a few other examples - there is also a website dedicated to Amos with loads of stuff on as well.

It's a while since I programmed in Amos but if I can help I will

thank you , i have the manual on pdf but is a pin reading so im just trying to get a manual sorted.

thank david :-)

back to work tomorrow and 12 hours! ....my enthusiasm will be tainted somewhat so no rush :-(

besides waiting for the manual.

I could lend you one if you get stuck

Thanks for the offer but I better buy one ...I may be reading it for years

LOL - I've been reading mine for 15+ years so far!!!

Nice talk there lads, this stuff is really interesting!
I have some ideas in mind, but as always, hardware projects still come in top priority.. :(
My thinking was about adventures too. Not plain text, but with pics and animations at best. But i was thinking that life may be simpler for such tasks than a programming environment like the ones you folks mentioned earlier.
Has anyone thought of utilizing something like Amiga Vision for example?
The pro version can make autonomous files, meaning that they do not require the AV installed in order to run.
Had an intro screen drawn some time ago for one scenario, and it's this:

Plain ol' Deluxe Paint stuff.. I know it looks Greek to y'all, but it was supposed to be set at some ancient Greek ruins etc. :)
I also had another idear, but will have to dig deep to find a screen or two.
Maybe some of us could cooperate into working something neat out?

I've got AmigaVision and to be honest I'm not sure that would cut it.

It's supposed to be a kiosk type of interaction software as well as a multimedia program - but saying that it might be able to hack it.

Now CanDO is another thing all together, IIRC that was used to write a game but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called

Dave G

@davideo: i see no reason of having to hack it, if you mean "adapting it" to our needs. Imagine something simple, in the likes of say, dragon's lair.
You can specify "hot spots" of a screen that do different actions according to where you click da rodent :) Those spots could easily be directions of E, W, S, N for example in an adventure. Taking different routes through a game, would result in different endings. Real simple concept, but i'm sure you get the picture

@salaxi54

I think you may have misunderstood my term of "hack it" - I meant I wasn't sure AmigaVision could do the job but then kinda persuaded myself part way through my previous post that perhaps it could :)

Especially the way that you've just explained it.

There is/was a few PC games going around were you had to locate clues within a picture of a room - something like that would work fairly easily

@davideo: I'm quite sure AV has lots of potential in it. Gear-permitted it could even support actual video clips, but that would take simple gaming far out..
I really intend to experiment on it, but god knows how many things are still in my to-do list of hw projects!

EDIT: Lookie-lookie :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7KIZQzYSls

The game I was thinking about earlier written using CanDo I believe is 'Ports of Call' but I'm not 100% certain of that.

I used AmigaVision to do a lot of my video titling and adverts on my videos years ago.

It's surprising what can be done with it.

He could have done with a mouse mat :D :D

Amigavision is bundled with the Opalvision card.

BTW: the card itself acts as a dongle for the software, pretty much the same as Video Toaster Lightwave software.

AmigaVision is also available as a seperate proggy.

I bought mine years ago as a stand alone program.

The adfs and manual are available if you know were to look :shhh:

i have AmigaVision pro now thank you all :-)

and pdf manual..

bugger more things to learn!

Hey, don't start to learn everything. Stick with one and only. :D
