Hi Folks!
This is my first post on your forum. I have been into Amigas since the late 80s and still own my trusty A500+, A1200, CD32 and (a rather sick) A4000. I am hoping to be able to bring my 4000 back to life as it has sat hidden away for 10 years in a box. During that time I had to learn how to use these horrid windows PC things and wishing I hadn't bothered! :D Perhaps some of you kind folks can advise me as I am a little behind the times since being off the Amiga scene for most of those 10 years. Nice to see the community is as strong as ever though. Anyways hello to you all!

Welcome to AmiNiceBay.

I'm sure you'll find lots of help here with words of wisdom and hardware a plenty to keep you tempted.

I may as well tell you before all the others do - get rid of the battery on your 4000 or at least make sure it isn't leaking and destroying your motherboard

Dave G

Hi Davideo
Thank you for the welcome! :)
Took the battery out ages ago, but had a wacky idea to run wires from the battery contacts to a new battery stored outside the case, which in turn would be housed inside an old lipstick container, secured with cable ties to the rear of the case, but I gotta get my 4000 up and running first!

now... the last time I used a lipstick container..... the wife nearly killed me...

Welcome to AmiBay, if youre looking for mischief then theres plenty around here to get up.

When not surfing sales or wants then theres this community section, that has a wealth of knoweldge about nearly every retrolicious platform - there is also ideas and memebers collections on display in the photobooth etc.

If you find yourself at a small loss for mischeif then please contact our resident chief mischief maker JuvUK (he can help you =D)

Now, when restoring retro hardware, always remember to take pics as you go =)

Hi Zetr0
Thank you for the welcome, but I was being serious about the lipstick! Honest! If I get the 400 running again I will post photos (lipstick and all) promise! :D

there was this one time in college..... err.. .... never mind that...

looking forward to the pics =D

Hello Geraldine.

Nice to see you here, too.

Now you ladies can make a women club in some area of the board. Our Heather is feeling a bit lonely lately as Cammy does not show very often.

Hi rkauer
Nice to see you here too. And yes why not have a thread for the girls, our favourite computer is an "Amiga" after all!

Geraldine,

Welcome!

I like the idea of the lipstick container, most of the users here solder a new battery back right on the board. Although newer types do not tend to leak the lipstick container would be 100% assured method. You could hotglue it to the back or on a zorro metal part thingiee.

Hi Geraldine & welcome to AmiBay. Hope you have a great time here, with or without your lipstick. :)

All the best.

Kin

Hi Geraldine

I presume that Johnstone is the town in Renfrewshire, North of the border?

Welcome to AmiBay!!

Hi Geraldine! It's great to see another girl on AmiBay! There's not many of us here. :)

Welcome!

Heather

Thank you one and all for your wonderful welcome!

You know what the best thing is about getting my Amiga up and running again? It's being in contact with the community again. How silly I was, all those years ago, in leaving it all behind. The Amiga community was and still is special. :D

Hey Geraldine and welcome to Amibay. You're just along the road from me (Crookston) so nice to have another Scotlander on the forum :)

I use the cycle route through Johnstone on the way to Loch Winnoch often (goes by the Morrisons).

Anyhoo - welcome and if I can help at all - let me know although folks like Zetr0, Rkauer, KinHell, AndyLandy, SkyDivinGirl and pretty much everyone else on here are much more knowledgeable than me lol

Cheers

John

@ Geraldine

You have joined a site with enough combined brain power and hackery skills that it contributes to global warming....

If part of your system is ailing, there is more than enough resource and knowledge on here amongst our members to get it working as it should again.

Thanks John, thanks for the welcome. Do you remember the old mill near there at Morrisions? Some idiots burned it to the ground, oldest mill in Scotland apparently too

And Merlin, yes I have noticed this. To be honest, a lot of the stuff talked about on here goes waaaaaaaay over my head! You certainly have quite a few technomages on here for sure!
