Just in time for Christmas, the heavy rain last night has flooded our house again! (we were flooded before in the 2011 storms).

This is going to be a great Christmas and also 40th birthday for myself this coming Saturday.

The water rose up around the house yesterday evening and when we realised it wasn't draining we called the Environment Agency and they got a load of sand bags out to us within 30 mins. Really good service. Sadly however as happened last time the ground water level was the issue and it came up through the floors.

At least we had a few hours warning and moved most things upstairs.

Not sure we are therefore having a Christmas, and think we will be forgetting my birthday. Feel saddest for Tom as it's the first Christmas he will remember.

Now just waiting for the insurance to get back to us.

Oh mate, I am so sorry to hear that it's happened again.

Worst timing too if ever :double

I hope the family pull together for you & help you have some kind of yuletide celebrations.

Good Luck my friend.

We were fortunate to escape the recent floods in our town.

I hope you get sorted sooner rather than later.

Best wishes, Dave G

Hope things work out for you.

All the best

My upmost sympathies Harrison. I have lived around York for most of my life and so go used to the constant flooding that you get there but by far the worst was when living in Malton where the terrible flooding in 2000 and 2002 caused massive upheaval for so many people.
The important thing is that you and the family are well and that you stick together and enjoy each other throughout this period, and remember many here will be thinking of you at some point tomorrow.
We hope it all goes well considering the circumstances, good luck and a Merry Christmas to the whole family:thumbsup:

The time of the year is irrelevant being flooded at any time is not something anyone likes to see. Just so happens to have occurred at what would usually be precious family time which cannot be got back :(

Places flood very close to me sometimes but it never affects our street, i guess some people don't realise how fortunate they are at times and dont have to worry about this stuff.

It doesn't seem as bad as last time.

When it happened in 2011 the water built up around the house until it had nowhere else to go and came up through the floor. It was about 6-8 cm deep in the house and sat there most of the day until the low tide, then it drained away quickly.

This time the water built up around the house the same, but stayed at a slightly lower level and didn't come into the house at all; but then at 4am it started raining again and was enough to raise the level and come up through the floor again, but dropped back down again by 6am when we got up again, leaving just wet floors. It doesn't look like it came in very high at all and hasn't even affected the skirting boards. Last time the paint was blistering within hours and you could see damp rising up the walls. This time I've not seen that yet. The only damage so far visible is our wooden flooring throughout the ground floor, which has swollen and warped, so needs ripping out. I will probably do that Friday so I can mop out any water trapped under the flooring and let it start drying.

So fingers crossed it is just drying out the floor this time, and not the walls. Last time they had to rip out all the downstairs walls a meter up, so it was a lot of work to put it all back after it was dry.

We are at least better off than our next door neighbour. The idiots don't have contents insurance this time! They got greedy last time and claimed too much on the insurance, so were refused insurance they could afford since. Mad idiots.

I'm sorry to hear about the flooding again, I hope everything isn't too badly damaged.
I was down at my parents when the river Mole bursts it's banks again. The houses at the end of her street got about 6 inches of water throughout, and we all lost power.
We managed to dig out enough candles, and get the old gas fire going and actually had a pretty good Christmas Eve.
However, the feeling when the lights turned on suddenly at 8am Christmas Day was fantastic. We were one of the lucky ones, by all accounts.
