Just bought myself a Furia accelerator to upgrade my A600. Though I’m now wondering if I made the right decision, I’m looking online and seeing an awful lot of reports of incompatibility. Having to disable cache just to get it booting etc.

Are they really as picky as they sound?

I have the latest rev3 and it works fine - boots to CWB without issues (using kickstart 3.1), but who uses 2.0 anyway :)

It runs OCS/ECS demos and games..

I ran my Furia without problems for a long time, just make sure you use an SD card as a hard drive NOT Compact Flash. I had trouble even with CF-SD converter and sometimes my cards got corrupted, but with an SD2IDE as a hard disk everything was okay.

And the furia runs hot, so you might consider the active cooling system for it. It doesn't cost much and it's actually very silent, but helps keeping the system cool.

As said above the only problem I had was with Compact Flash compatablity, this is a known problem with Furia owners, the best advice I will give is that the Sandisk Exterme or Ultra range of compact flash work flawlessly for me with no prolems, and regarding cf corruption just make sure you use the lastest PFS3 aio filesystem that will protect you from many system crashes

And to answer your question , the Furia is a great hardware addon so be rest assured on that :)

Thanks guys, I’ve already taken steps and bought a SD2IDE. Hopefully it’ll arrive when the Furia does.

What is the situation with kickstart roms? I still have Rev 2.x in my A600, should I get 3.1, the latest 3.1.4 or stick with what I have? I can’t see me using more than 4Gb initially.

Hi
Running furia with 16gb Dom and ks 3.1.4.1 No problems, can get a little hot.

I had one briefly, it was great while working but kept coming loose causing it to not be detected. On further inspection one of the pins in the PLCC socket was slightly sticking out caused by plastic shavings, and it had ripped one of the pins off the 68000, requiring a CPU replacement. I would strongly recommend checking that all the pins in the socket are straight before install as it needs a lot of force to get it to fit!

I have a white Furia (V1?) in my A600 using Sandisk CF cards and AmigaOS 3.1.4 with no problems at all. Everytime I hear problems with the Furia is seems to be the red ones, hence why I call them the Red Devils.

I had some problems initially with my Furia and the contacts. Cleaned them a dozen times and it has been working now for a couple of weeks - but I'm struggling with the old tech (getting my head round it and remembering stuff I used to know - just been very much WinUAE over the past 15 years for a couple of games).

My furia likes to boot but, without holding the right button, boots with 4 meg missing. I can get this booted with all the memory if I disable cpu cache. I also cannot get furiatune installed as the gui tells me I have no furia card installed despite the OS in Shell showing the cpu and memory being a furia 020/04 and fpu with 9.5meg of ram. I'm still working on it and know this issue is solvable, so I'm okay with it as it's a hobby and expected.

I'm using a CF sandisk 8gb with adapter from amigastore.eu, which seems to work fine (although they are a difficult store to deal with if it doesn't go smoothly - which is a real shame).

It is quick though and I have mine with an active fan. This fan is fairly quite, but not silent, but that doesn't bother me. I also upgraded the ROM to 314 and the OS too, and am still in the process of getting that looking lovely, just not there yet. I think for the price they are amazing. The 600 certainly is a good retro-buy as the machines are better value than the a1200 (just no AGA - which is a whole debate on these forums) and the accelerators and additional RAM is a decent price. I've even put a nice Indivision ECS scan doubler in mine and that was only about 130 quid with delivery. I remember back in the day these were fortunes to get your hands on.

I think Storm may be right about the Red Devils, but they look really nicely made and do work.

Personally I wouldn't be very happy with that and would ask for a replacement (for the record Amigastore were the company that sent me the Furia card that damaged my CPU and only reacted when I filed a Paypal claim). On the odd occasion that my card did have adequate contact to work, it worked fully.
