My A1200 boots Workbench 3.0 from an 8Gb CF card. If I make a duplicate of that card with a system independent CF card duplicator, can that card also be used to boot up on an A2000, A3000. or A4000? The main goal is to ensure that I have a backup to the boot device as I find that floppy fiasco to be quite annoying. However, I just realized that this could be a short way of getting Workbench 3.0 installed with CF card on the A4000, A3000, or A2000 instead of using the IDE and SCSI disks.

Also, since the CF card is on the IDE interface, Can I install another drive or CF card as slave and expect it to work?

Also, I have 3.2 ROMs a couple months ago for the A1200 that I never installed. If I install it, will Workbench 3.0 still run from the CF card with no problems? I plan to get the 3.3 ROM if it ever comes out.

Hi,

So answers to

Q1 = Yes. As far as I am aware there are no Module dependencies between machines. Just as long as you don’t have my specific libraries for a specific setup. I.e if just a stock WB3.0 then 1 disk set was for all. I think the only caveat maybe the A3000? But I let someone else with more experience answer this.

Q2 = Not as clear cut. It will depend on the CF adapter. Unfortunately there can be issues with certain adapters which the Amiga will only see as in “Master” mode. For instance I bought a SD to IDE reader. This has the ability to swap between and Master and Slave. But it wouldn’t work in slave.

Q3 = Yes you can BUT unfortunately 3.2 ROMs (as well as any ROMs labelled 3.x or 3.1.4) no longer contain Workbench.library and Icon.library. WB3.0 is reliant of the 2 libraries being seen on the 3.0 or 3.1 ROMs. You can get around this by putting the 2 libraries from your 3.2 CD in the Devs Libs.

AmigaOS 3.3 was announced by Hyperion this year at Amiga40 Germany to be released in 2026.

Is a CF duplicator needed or can this be done with software on a platform? Or a volume image then restore? I saw this video and on my MacOS, I got an error on a command so I couldn't complete this. But...FYI:

Just quick quick update... It appears that what I thought was the CF card duplicator was actually a CFast duplicator... I remembered that I have the license for Todo Backup Home Lifetime and tried its device duplicator with with two USB CF card writers... It worked. Now, I have the original CF card with WB3.0, a backup CF card with WB3.0, and another one that I have re-labelled as 3.2 that I will try to upgrade to WB3.2 that is in the A1200. The 3.2 Roms are already in the computer and I got it to boot up properly with 3.0 with that card. have a Sony pcmcia reader, so I hope that once I create the install 3.2 disk from the AmigaOS3.2 CD, I can just boot it up and it will just install it. Dunno though

Thx
