Is there any good alternatives to gmail? I've been considering to shut down my current gmail account and get a new one.

Only other ones I know of worth using are Yahoo and Hotmail. Both of which have been around since before Gmail.

Thanks!

Don't know why, but Yahoo and Hotmail sound even more dubious than Gmail.

I've been using Hotmail for as long as i can remember now... Never had any major issues with it ;)

i have all 3 and have had no problems with them

my first emails was excite

I remember Yahoo being kinda crappy (not nearly as much as Hotmail, but still.) Has it improved in recent years?

In terms of web based mail, gmail is the best option. Hotmail had a hell of downtimes and hotmail (now outlook) seems to be prone to spam taps.
I have to admit that outlook (ex hotmail) does offer a lot of features, but I have been using gmail since its very start without any problems.

Downtime?? Since when? Ive been on it 8 or 9 years and never once tried to login and found its offline

Does hotmail have more respectable sounding domain names like windowslive.com or something that you can use in your addy?

The thing is that my current gmail address has been compromised due to me letting my guard down in a wrong place.:double This has resulted in that address being spammed with emails wanting my personal info. I've ignored and deleted them from my trash can but since neither gmail nor tbird does that automatically and I've being reminded of my mistake on daily basis. Therefore I'd like terminate this address and get a new one. But if I want to get a straightforward firstname.lastname@domain, I have no choice than to change the domain.

I've been using Hotmail for years and have always been able to login :)... My old Yahoo account was the worst!

I don't bother with webmail, although I do have gmail and hotmail accounts purely because I needed them for other services such as gmail email address for Android and Google account to manage Google products and SEO. And hotmail for Xbox, MSN etc..

For email I never use webmail. Registering your own personal domain url is easy and inexpensive, then gives you easy access to unlimited email addressed for the domain. Much nicer, plus only you have access to it and the email content.

I used every sort of Webmail but I always found Gmail to be the best for my taste.
After finding out Google Apps some years ago, I bought a personal domain and setup Google Apps to use it for me and my family and never looked back!

Personalized email up to 10 users free with all the benefits of Gmail (apps etc) and tools for administrator was a win situation.
Also for professional Gmail/Google Apps usage using the free Boomerang plugin in Chrome is just awesome!

Dunno if anything like Google Apps exist in Hotmail/Outlook or Yahoo but recently I closed my Yahoo account that I was using ONLY for Yahoo Groups.

Amen to that. I hate Webmail, it's awful! I use it in a pinch when I don't have access to a real mailer, but I by far prefer to use a proper mail client with an IMAP mailbox!

Doesn't hotmail and yahoo have imap? Gmail ofcourse has that.

I use gmail for all my mail needs. no need for anything else. i got a dozen account connected to it. work and business.

You can use hotmail with your own domains... domains.live.com is your friend :)

And you can use gmail with that as well.

Hotmail was great back when it ran on a Unix backend, before MS bought it.
I mean it works, sure, but it's fairly sluggish to manage as web based systems go. (at least for the volumes I had passing through)

I'm happy with Gmail in recent years, performance is OK, storage is plentiful and above all else it's got versatible filtering, tagging and automanaging of incoming emails.

And way after MS bought it. It took years and years and several tries before Microsoft managed to put it on windows servers.
