I have several PATA 2.5 hard drives and the connector on the drive is 44 pins plus a space and a group of 4 more ins. I have a ribbon cable for the IDE but looking at the drive what is the 4 pins for? I am a little confused on this, is there some special connector I should be using?

if you have 44 pin cable the power is already included . the extra 4 pins are the slave/master pins. Please post a pic to be sure.

Thank you Levo-ace, that is exactly what I have for a hard drive. The mast slave pins were what was tripping me up and I did not want to screw something up and kill my logic board or hard drive doing something stupid!
Just so that you know link A-B = slave , C-D = master and D-B = cable select ( only for use with master/slave cable).
