I can still remember the first time I saw an Amiga... It was at a Paradigit outlet in Amsterdam, there was an Amiga on display running the Pan demo. I was instantly in love
!
Coming from MSX 1 and 2 (both of which I still have!) I saved up to buy a second hand Amiga 500 and boy was I motivated. For years I enjoyed my Amiga, decked it out with floppy drive selector, hi-pass filter toggle and at one point I even added audio peak-level meters
in the casing. Of course we had monthly 'meetings' (copy parties) and there where only two things you could buy there - a sandwich and 5.25" floppy's
. Good times...!
At some point I had saved enough to actually buy my own Amiga 4000, had to sell my 500 unfortunately (wish I still had it) but man... WHAT A BEAUTY
! It was only an 030 but soon I added some nice cards like the Retina Z4 and VLAB YUV, both from Macro Systems which had an office near by. But having such a hefty machine also meant no more copy parties, no way I would take this baby outside and risk damaging it. And up to this day I still have that machine with all it's upgrades!
Lately I have been working on getting everything up-to-date again. Early 2000's I got myself another A500 and recently I got the latest Kickstart ROM's and Workbench for both the 500 and my 4000, a PiStorm for the 500 and I will look for some nice CPU upgrade for my 4000 soon. I've ordered the A1200.net crystal case for my 500 and just before I wanted to start the conversion - I noticed the keyboard was different
.
Turns out my second hand Amiga 500 is a rare revision 3a with the Chicken Lips keyboard, the motherboard is also rare - it's a West Chester March 1987 build. So no way I was going to 'destroy' such a collectors item - I had to find another one to work on. Luckily I found an A500 plus at a thrift shop, which for some reason also has that rare Chicken Lips keyboard!! Perfect to get this into that beautiful Crystal Case and plug that PiStorm on it (check my Avatar!).
So this is where I'm at now - moving forward with upgrading and playing with both my 500's and my 4000. And joining Amibay to see what it has to offer - or what I can offer to you guys!
