Hi! I am no2 67.5 years old, but at 28, I went shopping for a personal computer. My motives were many, including music software, database/spreadhsheets, communicating online, as well as to impress someone I'd met about a year before. :)
While lookiing through a local computer store (Microwave Magic) in Fairfield, Ohio, I was able to compare those new things being released at about that time.
I remember Amstrad (seemed like cheap clones of others that might be better quality), PC jr, Apple something or other, Atari (which I thought was just a games machine), and then I saw the Amiga (before there was a model number assigned to it, just the Amiga).
I read the specs (like I had done with the others), asked about availability, and suggestions about upgrades of all of them...
Cost vs what you could get, the Amiga was the best deal, so I walked out with one as well as a 512k ram upgrade, 5.25" drive, a few software packages like Transformer (I was/am) really into spreadsheets and databases, so I had training and experience with Lotus 123. The thing that was the last thing to win me over was the 4-channel stereo, and a software package called Music Studio.
I became a member of the local (Cincinnati, OH) Ohio Valley Amiga User Group (OVAUG), and eventually became co-librarian, collecting various PD software bring and share with our monthly meetings with members. I still have copiies of some months, and have reviewed the conts last year on my Twitch channel. (CapnCrunch490)
Sometime in 1989, I started sharing "online" before the www was a thing, running a BBS, with a NEC 7-disc CD changer. I kept a few Fred Fish discs in, as well as a www-based online encyclopedia.
The BBS software that I remember trying out was TAG, Maxxs, and Citadel-68k. Citadel was different and simple to use (I guess I liked it because I'm simple-minded.) and was able to network through another Citadel-68k BBS in NJ, so some of the message areas (rooms/floors) could be shared from outside of the local callers' area.
I have always had an Amiga, after moving up to A500, and then A2000, but have had difficulty with it recently, probably due to my carelessness. The most recent streams (I've put it off for a couple months), have been emulation. I've bought and supported Amiga Forever for over a decade, and really appreciate all of the contributions and support within the Amiga community. I've even shipped off my A2000 motherboard to Chris Edwards (and support his Patreon account) for an upgrad and repair when I couldn't get floppies to work...

Anyway, thank you so much for accepting me into the AmiBaY community as well.

Nice intro, are you still into BBSing? It's quite alive still, albeit more globally than locally as everything's connected 24x7 these days :)
