Here is a Willem in an Ebay BIN, the guy also mentions a USB version in his other items but I don't see it listed :(

You think that one would work Zetr0?

For the stuff that Xanxi mentioned "amiga kickstart rom, and most amiga expansion rom (such as GVP, A2091, A590, Blizzard, Apollo, etc)"

I would say pal/gals would be nice also.

Do you mean THIS one?

This one would do it. Is it directly suitable for Amiga kickstarts or does it need another adapter?

I use a Batronix, which is jumperless, extremely well made and has drivers for every Windows, Mac and Linux OS you could possibly want. They're cheap for an industrial device, but quite expensive for a hobbiest. However I use it almost every day, so it was worth spening a bit more on.

Bryce.

How much? Would you have a link?

They have a website, just Google it, but their least expensive model is €108 Euros

I'll jump in since my toolbox is pretty much missing an EPROM burner right now.

What about the Genius G840? I remember looking at that after long researches. Looks like it can do everything (can't remember about 16-bit programming, though) but I'd like to have a bit of advice on it.

Anyway, I'm looking for a programmer which can do GALs, PALs and E/EPROMs. Also SPIs if possible (better to be future-proof). Obviously Amiga stuff (GAL upgrades and Kickstarts) will be the main focus :D Oh yeah, something that also supports the BlizzardPPC's flash chips...

I guess my budget is around €100, so it's not like I want some cheap stuff that breaks too soon

USB is not a requirement, but it working with Win7-64 would be a big bonus.

@OP Sorry for hijacking your thread, I hope that my advices will also help you in your choice

Ciao amico mio,

Sadly the Genius G840, (like the G540)only programs 8bit wide devices - it will not program 16bit devices like the 27c400 / 323 or 800 EEPROM's

Hello big Z, I am a fan of yours since you helped me repair my Apollo 1240 years ago :p

Give a lookie at an updated G840 list[FONT=微软雅黑]:

27C400s are in there... does it mean that it's 16bit wide compatible?

Thanks!

according to that download device list, it does indeed state 27c400's these are 16bit wide devices - so, it should work.

You wont be able to program 27c800 devices as the programmer doesn't support these.

In which cases are those usually needed? I'm no expert (yet ) on EPROMs, so I just know that the Amiga uses some 27cXXX, but I can't remember which.

the 27c400's are primarily used for the A500, 600 and A2000 series of Commodore Amiga.

The A1200, A3000 and A4000 use 27c201's (which you cannot buy any more or if at all) so you have to use the 27c400's in their space double the code per chip OR ground the higher address line.

With the latter 32bit Amiga Models you can store two 512K KickROM or with a modified exec (thats a module of code that exists in Kickstart memory) you can in fact have a 1MB KickROM. (the A3000 and A4000 do need a couple of modifications). with the A1200, you can use 27c800's and even have a 2MB kickstart* , 4x 512K kickstarts or 2x 1MB Kickstart images.

(*not sure if exec has been patched to allow a 2MB kickstart)

Our fellow AmiBayer Mfilos has made a great how-to guide on preparing and creating your own kickstart images.

The A1200, A3000 and A4000's

I've a genius g840. I am trying to write GAL22V10B to upgrade an A3640 rev0 to rev2 and I always got a verify error..... Does someone already tried GAL on this programmer. Thanks

I got genius G840 and it works fine, upgraded many A3640's. It is good programmer.

Yes i now have a willem burner for PC and a german burner for the Amiga.
Now i only need to solve the lack of legacy parallel port on my computers. Hopefully, i will be able to use the parallel port of my SBC inside my A2000 when it will be all set up.

There are relatively cheap PCI and PCI-e cards with parallel port available. I've got one of these and it works just fine. Not all cards will work with Willem, though so it's a bit of trial and error.

Yeah but i only have laptops.
USB to parallel devices don't work and Express card seems to be a lottery for legacy support.
My best option is to use my SBC's parallel port under Windows 95.

Only 32-bit OSs supprted according to the description.Willem needed custom driver to get it working with 64-bit OS.

It is also written: "V5.71 latest version can support WIN7 64 Bit system"
I downloaded the software and it works under 64bit Win 7. 64bit Driver is also provided.
