Well, introducing myself. My name is Bas, I'm from the Netherlands and I've been playing with Commodore equipment since 1981-2, when we bought a VIC-20. Since then, I've had several C64's, Amiga's etc. I still own a SX-64, Amiga 4000, and more than 1 C64 and Amiga 500.

I also loved the Spectrum scene, and I still have a Spectrum+ (with slightly less awkward keyboard...

Still, unfortunately, RSI problems ended my hobby, so I'm kind of selling up...

Welcome to our little cosy corner of the interwebs

The original machines usually. Arcade cabs I've not seen on here but I doubt they be excluded from interest. They are retro after all :)

EDIT: ... And awesome!

Oh yeah, this thing runs a xxxx-in-one board. 1111 original arcade games on 1 machine :) Even though I want to get it to run my Atari 2600, Spectrum, VIC-20, C64 and of course Amiga games as well ;)

Somethimes shipping is a killer. But anyhow, there are users from everywhere.

Well, the prices mostly are I guess... I already know all about that ;) Both from the Netherlands as from Belgium (as I used to live there)...

And I quite like the fact so many of the people here are from Europe, as most seem the be from the US on most other forums I visit regularly...

Thanks! Am I right in thinking most people here are Amiga people?

Hi Bas,

There are a lot of Amiga fans on here for sure, but Amibay is for all Retro Users. Most on here that I've seen, seem to have a great deal of experience with other systems too. I have grown up with everything from Amstrad 464's, Aquarius's, 3D0's, PSX's, Xbox's, Dreamcast's, CDi's, Nintendo's, Sega's, PC's as well as all the Commodore series of home computers, though I have to say my all time fave is the Amiga closely followed by the Amstrad CPC464.

Hi Struis, welcome to AmiBay!!

Please tell me, what does your user name mean?

I ask this because I was in Belgium in February this year and one of the local restaurants was serving 'Struisvogel' one evening, something that we eventually worked out was Ostrich steaks. I think that was how it was spelt....

They were quite tasty anyway and it was bizarre to find out that ostriches are bred for this in Belgium...

Indeed, my nick is short for struisvogel which is ostrich. I've always like going to the zoo, basically everywhere I went or lived. And for some bizarre reason, I loved ostriches. Perhaps because they are close to the absolute opposite of me. Pretty big bird with very small brain and not much intelligence at all, while I'm not too impressively manly with a very high IQ. I kind of loved the simplicity of life of those birds..

And yes, since people realised ostrich steaks really taste quite well, and ostriches are quite cheap to raise, ostrich farms started everywhere in Holland and Belgium :) Even though I still don't like killing those birds...

And I didn't mean to offend anyone with my remark about Brits and languages. I just met quite a lot of them, and only a few spoke other languages. But then again, why would you need to....

I can only imagine the international shipping on an arcade machine cab

Yea in some ways its a disadvantage natively speaking a language that is the worlds most common outside your country. It'd be really cool to speak a few languages.

Welcome! Well, there is not only European people here.

And just for a curious moment: your name is really Bas? We have a Bas here already, and he is Greek (but live in UK since no one knows).

About ostrich: there are people creating those birds here for the meat, too! The meat is tasty!

No, and that's cool. But there are quite a lot of them. Oke, perhaps, it's so cool that most people are NOT from US and Canada, but from all over the place. Brazil is really cool though ..:)

Well, it's really Sebastian, but I guess the Dutch are lazy people. Too many letters to pronounce ;) It's probably not a name you'll hear often in Greece :)

Don't really know, never tried it... And they seem to survive everywhere. Even in our chilly rainy climate...

I forget to say Welcome , because I was confused with the other dutch user welcome.

Were did you live in Belgium ? I will be looking at your sales close because I can arrange a NL adress to ship to as well. I work daily with the NL.

As Rkauer mentioned read the rules a bit, there are a some rules, it might seem a bit overkill at first, but they are there for a reason. (In my opinion keeping this place a safehouse for every person/party without flamewars)

I live in Antwerp city itself (behind the train station, parallel to the Carnotstraat, Lange Beeldekensstraat, very nice neighbourhood ;)

I agree with the rules really. You do need to be strict to keep everything running as it should. Nothing wrong with some protection for everyone!

Cheers, Bas.

Oh, the reason I'm selling lots of my stuff now, is because I have got severe RSI problems. Probably from playing with computers 24/7 for 20+ years, but crap non-the-less...
