Hi all

I would like to transfer a few LHA files from Aminet onto my 2MB A1200 from the PC. My only method of doing this is via a floppy disk but obviously 3MB doesnt fit into 720KB!

Any suggestions?

:help::sos

Can you split it up into chunks and do it that way?

If not I can lend you a CF/PCMIA kit.

ftp or other file transfer via network

I just recently got a network boot floppy working on my A1200 and 3c589 PCMCIA ethernet adaptor. After boot I can ftp to or from the A1200.

Use winRAR on the pc to split the files into 700kb archives, copy to 720kb disks, reassemble on the Amiga (mount PC0) using UnRAR from Aminet

To format a DD disk to 720kb on the pc, use the following command:

FORMAT A: /t:80 /n:9

Just get a serial cable or parallel and transfer at a nice slow steady pace with Amiga Explorer.

(I copied the entire WHDLoad games pack KG made via serial once, took a couple of days but transfer went perfectly  )

@ thread

Thanks for the suggestions all :)

I actually have a CF transfer kit but I dont have a PCMCIA slot on my laptop anymore, nor do I have a card reader. And unfortunately I dont have a serial port on my laptop or PC! So the WinRAR method is perfect

I used to use this program called Chunker ( http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/chunker ) back in late 99 at college it works perfecty. Binaries are in there for pc and amiga, you tell it how big to make each chunk then copy them to disk. Then back on amiga use dechunk to put them all back together again.

My solutions involve either burning a CD-ROM (nice and easy if you've got a way of reading CDs on your miggy) or chunking things up on to multiple floppies. You don't even need to download anything for Mac or Linux, you can use the 'dd' tool to chunk files up and use 'join' on the Amiga to reassemble. There's probably an equivalent command on Windows, but I've no idea what it is.

Please don't use WinRAR for anything. Ever. Please. (Yeah, I have no love for the program)

Wot StrontiumDog said \o/

The classic way of distribution just adjust size to fit the media in question
and use ya fave packer that works on both endsa
