how long will 24v dc survive with 30v dc

Yeah, that occurred to me 10 seconds after I hit the submit button, but you then answered before I could find an example schematic on the net to ammend the post :D

:) No problem mate, that is cleared. I digg for my failed experiment now..
 
I used the diode solution (first solution on the link I posted) for up to 5A using 6x LM7805 to power an arcade cabinet PCB. It's been running for 6 years without an issue.

I've never had that kind of joy to be honest, the one I tried is this one with 5 of them.. (same link)

Really? It shouldn't fail. Did one of the diodes avalanche, or do you know what failed first?

Well nothing failed, but at first hook up, they did not get hot even, the ones first hooked up (close to wire) took load first. So I ended up adding extra wires, (and hook up wires in the middle of the pcb) it did help to release the effect but it did not cure it completely. So I've dropped it in my project box to rest in peace....

ps: the schematics where identical but 5 where used, checked by a friend who shoud know his work... I've mad my mistakes first, but these where corrected..
