Obviously I'm a noob here , but I'm surprised how young some of the people on here are .

Is it that you had old hardware when you were really young , or have you "discovered" things like the Amiga since ?

BTW I'm 48 , got my first Amiga when I was about 27 .

Hi Will!

Welcome to Amibay

Well I'm 31, I think most of the users here are mid 30's which would mean they grew up when home computing was really taking off, speccy/C64/etc.

But we have a whole new generation now, because these older systems are a great platform for showing our Kids the basics of computing.

I didn't get my first Amiga until I was about 19-20 only because we couldn't afford one growing up, I bought an A1200 from a Car Boot sale and have been hooked since :)

Steve.

well im that old that chuck peddle had joined commodore a few years after my birth cert was programmed into a 6502 processor!! LOL

really tho, im 38 (HONEST!) grew up with the old c64/c64c (the one that looks like an amigaish), c64gs, and (aww bless!) a c16. Back when i was still in junior school/secondary school i'd heard of amiga's and turned me nose up at em!

A few months back that all changed when sian (same one who's a member on here!) persuaded me to get a cd32... followed by an A1200 which had been "butchered" when someone put a laptop cd drive in the back which i successfully operated on and removed massive splinter!! Annie (well we named the a1200!) now works pretty well... especially after extracting the laptop hard disk from it, installed new top shield and put in a cf drive to work as hd! :) I even went as mad as to (a few weeks back!) bought this near finished towered A1200 (seller finished it near enough) which we called "Tannie" (tower annie) and another A1200 (another GENUINE commodore one!) in good nick, plus a 1st gen CDTV with no keyb/mouse/floppy.

basically, age does affect opinion ;-) and yes that includes C=USA but we are leaving that to the other thread!

Hi

I am also 31, had my first A1200 when they were first made. Not sure how old I was, must have been in my teens though.

We do have a few grandpa's here

26 here, had our first Amiga, An A1200, when i was a kid. Came home from school and my dad had been out and bought one. He got an 030 accelerator and a hard drive too!

hi and welcome im 35 i was given a dragon32 when i was about 11 and i brought my first c64 with my first weeks wages when i was 16

Hi Will!

Welcome to Amibay

SNIP ...

Steve.

Aaarrgghh , he's here as well !

Seriously Steve , thanks for the keyboard and MIDI interface , well chuffed

I'm such an old git I didn't get into computers until I got a Speccy 48 for my 21st .
I did get a chance to get into computers in 1980 , I worked at a large PetroChem Engineering company in West London and was offered the chance to work in the computing office looking after an IBM 360, I think it was.
But I just didn't get it back then

Next project is to see if the towered A1200 I built 13 years ago will fire up , then I'm going to see if the Yamaha CX5M I have still runs !

Also 26 here.

Had a C64 and a speccy when I was 4+ years old in '89 :D, Later got an Amiga 600 when I was 9 one xmas after seeing a friends and loving it (circa '94) so was a bit behind with the times but not too much that they were obselete, but was too young to know that anyway really. I think the C64 when I was that young was a way for my grandparents to keep me quiet  since I was always fascinated with technology even as a child.
Always loved retro gaming growing up. Kept most of my old consoles for a long time. Sega being my biggest faves thanks to the Mastersystem, Megadrive and MegaCD I had as a kid and the Japanese Dreamcast I got a year before UK release, :D

About 18 months back I got the Amiga bug again and bought myself an A1200 from ebay, sadly wasnt working, did some research to find out what was up with it and stumbled across Amibay where I found lots of help from all the awesome members here, gave my broken A1200 board to the very skilled Zetro knowing one day it will live again (though not yet I dont think, hes a very busy guy) and then bought a new motherboard for it, also from one of the guys here.

I've learned so much more about the Amiga since being here than I ever could have otherwise and I'm still learning more and more all the time. This is definately the best use of cyberspace I've come across since having an internet connection and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here!

When I was 7 I played the Game & Watch Egg clone (USSR), my first gaming experience ever.

My first computer experience, playing Monty Mole (and Hypersports) on the clone of Speccy, was in 1988, dont remember exact date, I was around 9 years old.

MY first 16 bit experience - 1992, played Prince of Persia on PC.

Had my first Amiga when I was 13 and 11 months old (June 1993).

There are other important dates and events in my notebook but they are not related to computers so Ill keep them private

I am 32 years and 2 weeks old and work as a historian.

Well I am 36 which seems about average here.

1983 - Had a ZX Spectrum 48k as a family present when I was 8.
1986 - Saved up and got a C64 when I was 11.
1988 - Got a paper round and saved like mad for my first Amiga 500 when I was 13.
1991 - Got an Amiga 1200 when I went to college when I was 16.
1993 - Bought my Amiga 4000 using my student loan when I was 18.

Still got my trusty A4k which Hikey restored for me  but now days its silly fast PCs and consoles.
I miss the glory days of the Amiga...

26 years old.

A friend of mine had a C64 when we where like 6-7 years old and we played all day long on that machine.

One of my other friends recived a A500 and here it all began. The games looked so good compared to the C64 games. He later recived a A2000 from hes brother so i talked my parents into buying hes A500 when i where about 9-10 years old.

Still have that A500 and it is working :)

So almost a year ago i found Amiga.org/Amibay and safir.amigaos.se and i just knew i had to get a new Amiga system. Here i am with my dream system 3000T / PPC / PCI Bridge and a 21" Sony CRT with perfect picture qualety

I think I done a thread about this some time ago but anyway. . .

I'm 22 now but I guess I should still be considered a "whipper-snapper" compared to some of these old relics that hang about on here (only kidding! ;)).

I got into Amiga at a pretty early age when my dad brought home an A1200 early part of 1993 which would make me barely 4 years old!!! :o Understandably I caught the bug pretty soon even at that stage in life.

41 here....

Bought my first amiga 500 when I was 19 way back in 1989...whoa...good times...good times...

Sold it a few years later, bad choice. Just recently pickup up a 1200, now all hell has broken loose and the Wife is pissed. :D Friggin Lemmings....:p

Z.

I'm 25. My first computer was actually a Macintosh IIcx, which we got when I was 8. (Thus beginning my long love-affair with computers and programming :D) I didn't actually get into the Amiga until about 2000 (yes, really,) when I was reading about Commodore's various systems on the Internet and thought the Amiga sounded pretty cool.

Wow, theres a lot more people around my age on here than I expected :D

...Sorry to butt in but thats really suprising even to me.

I am suprised about the age range also as I thought doom and the original playstation would have reduced the numbers more than it has. Good to see the Amiga lives on :-)
