Excuse my ignorance but why do pos systems retail for so much when it's basically just standard pc hardware, that i can see, or is there some substantial difference?

I understand they are built better than their standard HP computers with features such as gold plated connectors and poly-fused power ports. I think in general they are built to be used 24/7 for a long period of time. They are probably configured differently too to suit the point of sale environment.

The extra serial PCI card included are on ebay for £50 each, none have sold like but these are included with the systems anyway.

Other than that, im not sure what the difference is. They work perfectly fine as a standard pc running vista business though. I set one up for the friend and they are more than happy with it.

If you havent already googled these then take a look, the prices are shocking! Hence the fair price here of £50 each plus shipping. If you stuck £100 all in at one of these you could have yourself a nice little system :)

No difference at all except the markup and the software they are normally installed with.

yeah i did a google and found the price.

Just wondered why someone would go with the dedicated pos over a standard pc but as you said, reliability is probably the answer.

Out of interest,

How many SATA ports does this have?
Is the processor an LGA775 type?
Do you know if this board will take an upgrade to say a Core2Duo?

Ill switch one on tonight to double check but there not loud at all, very quiet infact just as long as you havent got your head pressed against it!

These would make great little emulation machines! Perfect size for a TV cabinet/shelf :)

I'm not declaring interest (although very tempted), but do they come with the necessary brackets to install a HDD and optical drive?

Yeah just slot them in no problem. These would look nice under a tv shelf and with Intel 3000 graphics they should be good for emulation.

Ooops, forgot to post yesterday - payment sent for one item, withdrawing interest on the second. Thanks :)
