See pic. The display is looking dirty all if a sudden. Was fine before.

No idea what happened

I have never seen a hardware malfunction like that on LCD displays so my guess would software.

Did the number of colours on display change? i.e. could it be due to the display set to some 8-bit display mode and the use of dithering in truecolour pictures such as the background? I guess you could tell by looking at text - if it's clear then you have a strong hint. Could you boot some other OS to test it?

First thing to try for me would be reinstalling whatever the MAC equivalent of a display driver is.

It's not software. I have 3 OS's installed, OSX, OS9 and Ubuntu.

Same problem on all of them. Even on the OS selection screen.

If you notice it is not the whole screen but more like most if it except for the boarders.

The issue looks more hardware related rather than software to me.

But do you think it's worth me trying to reset the PMU or whatever ?

Was the back of the screen exposed heat?
I have seen that look before..:(

Well, it looks like the issue has been resolved now! I found that wobbing or tapping the clamshell amplified the problem so this was the best way to show the Genuis's the fault.

Apple tried re-seating the display to no avail, so they replaced the Display clamshell and all is well now...

If you can effect the errors intensity by 'wobbling or tapping' the screen, it seems a new display may be needed.

Something else that may work....

As silly as this sounds - I solved it - i was playing with the energy settings - and went into energy saver settings - and switched off automatic graphics switching.
