It's been an open secret for some time that it was due, and here it is.

The big ticket features are a faster A6 CPU, 4G data network support and a taller display.

Looks pretty swish, but I'm not sure I'll be upgrading to it any time soon. Nice as it is, there's nothing really revolutionary going on there. It's almost a shame as we've come to expect new innovations from Apple.

The general consensus these days is that there's little to differentiate smartphones apart, so go for whichever platform you prefer.

Oh, and Apple have finally changed the dock connector on the iPhone 5! Frustrating for those of us with so many contraptions with that connector, but on the other hand, kudos to them keeping it the same for so long.

Wasn't expecting any innovation and wasn't given any, so Apple did not disappoint :)
Really is just an updated 4s.

I think I will keep my One X.

I think I will keep my One X.

I have an HTC One X and will not be in the slightest bit jealous when my Brother upgrades to the new Iphone. A year ago I thought the ideal screen size was 4 inches or maybe 4.2 and anything bigger was too large. Having had a One X for a couple of months, I was wrong. Even a 4 inch screen looks small, and the Iphone 4s and even my previous Android look and feel like toys.

The general consensus by this launch is not a lot of wow. Which isn't hard to understand. Most was leaked from before, other stuff were predicted. But in the end it is an suberbly built 4" 16:9 320ish dpi phone with faster graphics and cpu than last year that offers LTE on everything, including the carrier which it happens my office switches us over to. Given my phone were up for replacement (it is a 2010 vintage htc desire) it is perfect. However i understand that people with the 4s doesn't feel overwealmed.

But what would overwealm people. NFC? It would be "that has X phone already". induction charging? heck, even my hp touchpad has that. You got the fastest wifi, the fastest cellular, great build, great screen (full srgb).. The camera couldn't be anything better without giving up size and bulk. It is probably as good as it could be at the moment given the size.

It'll be the first iOS-device i have ever owned, but i'm buying it. not because i was impressed. I haven't been that since the first iphone. i was sadisfied. it was what i hoped it would be. it was like when you buy a new computer a year after the last one, and you hoped they would come to their senses and not put glass on the freaking back of this one ;)

Oh, absolutely. It's still a superb smartphone and if I was in the market for a new phone, it'd be where I'd go, but my 4S is still under a year old and I'm very happy with it.

As for innovation, it's hard to see where else they could go with the smartphone platform. Then again, if I could see that, I'd be making millions licensing patents!

Right now it is NFC (payment, proximity sharing without pairing etc) and induction charging (those pesky cables) which seems to be in the news that this doesn't offer. but beside that it had to be stuff like built in projectors, larger sensor cameras etc. But that is added bulk.

I read about Sonys flagship model boosting a display where the touch layer was merged with the display layer. This the new iphone also has. Sony have also the playstation stuff. Nokia has the large sensor camera. samsung has this giant phones, they also have projector built into one. you find all this stuff in one or the other competitor. Thats the problem in the market.

But the positive thing is that it boils down to choice. and ironically there aren't many hand-sized phones with iphone 5 specs out there. they have all grown tablet-large. So for my need (emphasize on my, i don't want any nintendo vs sega, amiga vs atari etc) it fits the bill even compared with contemporary phones.

No doubt about it. It is superbly made and very refined. Is it toooootaly awesome , well it's a phone.

Having said that I'm replacing a touch screen on a htc wildfire phone at the moment .. Cheap isn't the word here! You pay your money and you take your pick.

Sadly the uk will pay in £ what the Americans pay in $ for the new iphone or very similar anyway....

Will I get one , later yes ...

I'll upgrade sure.

When its free on a 28 day tariff...

:tumbleweed:

Well my upgrade for my contract is due in January so if they offer me one for free i'll take it :)

i love my gs2 a few mates have 4s and keep saying how there fed up of them playing up so is 5 gona be any differnt

My contract runs out this month so I was waiting to see what Apple had up their sleeve .... or what they dont`, it is not much of an upgrade, I will definitely be going back to Nokia now their new Smart Phone. It has Windows 8 (not so bad :), wireless charging and the screen can be used with gloves, those are only a few innovations which actually are *useful*. Sorry to say but it really seems like Apple has dropped the ball this time (again?) but people will pay because of the name even though it is a half arsed attempt at a new iPhone. "Sheep mode off, thinking mode on"

Great! Only 364 days of iPhone 6 rumors until it's announced! I really love how they release 4 or 5 products a year but take up more than half the "technology news" that is reported. :double

this is great, that means i get an iphone 4 for free when my friend upgrades and get rid of this 3s that doesn't ring (external speakers are shot):p

I've been (yes, I admit it) an Apple Fanboy since the late 90's (when I realised that my trusty Amiga would go downhill) and of course I upgrade... like every year
