Well, I received mine on launch day and there's nothing to complain about
Never used Google Maps, so I don't care about that.
Orange swapped my PAYG microSIM for a nanoSIM directly in store, too.

What do you think to the new maps in iOS 6? **snigger**

the maps feature is excellent, i doubt there is much sniggering you can do with a sony-erricson phone

tsk tsk.. .same "old-new" iPhone users living in denial: -

My Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has served me well for over 1.5 years now. The only gripe I have is its getting a bit poor on the battery. Its the best phone i've owned since the trusty old 750i I had many moons ago.

Its running Android ICS, has a 4.2" screen and a spec thats pretty much the same as your brand new iPhone 5 minus 1 core on the processor and plus 0.2" on the screen. It also looks pretty nice! ... OH! And it runs all everything fullscreen (how you enjoying your old apps running at "3.5?) and kinda navigates using Google maps .....accurately.

I like how iPhone users buy the phone and admire how thin it is, then stick a dumb rubber housing around it to "protect" it. Not needed for mine, its strong and thin!

Now you tell me what your new iPhone can do that my crusty old Ericsson can't?

And i'll be upgrading to a Samsung Galaxy SIII next month... Quad core... nice, something Apple users wont even sniff until next year.... or maybe 2 years if they pull another S! By that time Android will be so far ahead even blind Apple sheep will see the difference.

Once all the fuss dies down and reality sets in, you'll secretly be longing for the next iPhone to fix all the limitations of this one.... give it a few weeks...

Been using my S3 for a while now and it really does do everything I could want from a phone right now.

I bought the S3 and sold my S2, which was the first non-Nokia phone I ever owned. Definitely the correct decision.

Phipscube, ah you only posted the usual anti apple propaganda whipped up by the "also rans"

As far as i'm aware the iPhone5 is the only current phone that can deal with 4G which orange are bringing online soon via EE. I don't know if denmark has a 4G infrastructure so may not be relevant to you.

Thinking of the iPhone 5 compared to its competitors reminds me of the old galaxy chocolate advert "Why have cotton when you can have silk"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5ycZ4Plooo

And I expect that's why demand has completely outstripped supply.

But people should be happy with whatever phone they have:)

Aye Snoozy, as long as you are happy. If you don't use maps, not a biggie but alot do, and have been used to Google maps, now they are suddenly "upgraded" (downgraded) because Apple refuse to use "competition" as default. 15 years experience vs 2 years. Apple should have at least waited till their app was up to at least being correct on its location data before they ditched google. As it happens, Goog have made an app for Apple, its just sat waiting for approval. Until then Goog are in a win win situ.

I know I posted alot of fun stuff, but it is real and its a big problem. Already 2 of my good friends that are die hard apple fanboiz are a bit miffed. It was bad enough with iOS 5 having to keep a constant data connection to use navigation (you can do turn by turn navi offline with Android) now they've ditched Google maps completely... and not because their system is better, its because Apple don't want to deal with Goog anymore.

4G has been available here for over a year, Denmark ditched Analogue TV in 2009, and since then the spectrum has been gradually converted over. But I personally think its been dragged out slowly, VERY slowly. And the speeds don't even go above 30MBit on offer right now. I wouldn't expect it to be any better in Uk for at least another year, by which time all phones will have 4G as standard. It is a big plus 1 for iPhone 5, but not very useful just yet.

And yeah, why have cotton when you can have silk.... That's why i'm buying a Samsung Galaxy S3.

8 Million sheep. Sorry, but its true. I'd be one of them (being a total gadget geek) but the iPhone 5, for me, is a letdown. I was expecting to be blown away. I postponed my S3 purchase just incase iPhone 5 was awesome.... It isn't for me.

If I was upgrading from iPhone 4S, I'd be feeling like Apple only did this much work in 2 years: -

tee hee! Sorry, I just love a bit of fanboi banter :)

Well I'm looking to move over to a S3 from my 3gs, I was in the orange shop and the guy said they should have several 4g phones ready for the launch date and hopefully the S3 will be one of them so I'll wait a bit longer :)

Ah is the S3 getting the 4G treatment in UK now?, thats good. It was launched here with 4G in june, but because of the limited 4G speeds offeted atm, its barely faster than HSDPA. (3.5G)

Apples problem is rumors and unrealistic expectations. While the iPhone 5 delivers both in design, technical design, performance hike and better screen/lte/etc for a newer model, people always seem to want something out of the ordinary. They want that "one more thing". Beside if you want a large phone, i can't see many reasons to choose s3 over the iphone 5 when comparing them (or the other way, only up to taste). But just becasue it isn't that spectacular with something all new and exciting you get all this rambling.

S3 came out in May it has quad core, 4G (By June here, Apple wasn't first) bigger screen, more expansion options (Sd slot), standard connection ports, isn't tied to iTunes etc. Android has pretty much overtaken iOS, Lots of advantages there.

I expected the iPhone 5 to be at least better than this phone, and I hoped Apple would finally relax on its lockdown. But its technically inferior, and is still tied down. And iOS 6 has basically played catchup to the level Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) hit a few months ago. iOS is no longer running ahead.

True that expectations are inflated with hype and what not, but even negating that, the iPhone 5 should and could be better (as could iOS 6). But its not bad by any means, just a disappointment for someone like myself that likes cutting edge.

Like i've said before, the one main benefit of iPhone is software. Android doesn't have as much support (yet, its rising quickly). so that's a reason to choose Apple right now, but in the time i've had Android already on my good old Arc, i've found lots of nice games and apps that suit me just fine. So being a hardware geek, I go with the "bleeding Edge" which is still the S3 even though its 4 months old, well HTC One X is quite awesome too. Come next month I may end up swaying over to HTC, i'm not really sure yet. Nice to have choice.

iPhone comes with Apple Maps!:picard

As far as I am aware the micro usb port has only been used as the EU made it a standard for mobile phone chargers. Also as long as you use the Keis software it works fine for file transfer. Its certainly not such a rip off as Apple and their adapters. I have been using Nokia and HTC chargers ever since my original S2.

http://www.gsmarena.com/microusb_to...harger_plug_in_the_eu_next_year-news-2181.php

Yet another standard Apple chooses to ignore

That is something else that has always put me right off Apple products... their refusal to adopt universal port standards. Why do we need priority Apple ports when every other device works perfectly well with a USB port for both charging and data transfer?

If I forget my charger I can just borrow someone else's charger, regardless of the mobile they own, as the majority are now micro-USB so will all work. Or I can just plug it into a computer and charge it whilst using the computer.

And Apple have even now changed their own port, making all existing devices that connect to them requiring an adapter to work. Something I'm sure will come at a premium from Apple for the privilege of being able to use the hardware you already own.

Your arguments are "S3 had already 4G, bigger screen, more expansion options (Sd slot), standard connection ports, isn't tied to iTunes "

Ironically the s3 have got a 11 pin microusb port which is not compatible with the standard it is supposed to represent.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the new connector was a new standard for MHL? ok, i'll take back the "standard connection ports" if that's the case. Still lots of pros on S3 side in my opinion.

The actual technical reason for this is that the Apple connectors generally do far more than just power and USB. The old dock connector had analogue audio, video output, firewire support and a whole bunch of other weird and wonderful features. I don't know much about the new Lightning port, but I'd assume that it's far more than just a plain-Jane USB port.

That doesn't detract from the fact that it's therefore incompatible with everyone else's chargers. It would be nice to have a standard charger design, but I'd rather not have that at the expense of functionality.

What annoyed me most was an old Orange SPV Windows phone I used to have. The connector was just mini-USB, but it would not charge from a computer unless ActiveSync was running! How crazy is that?

Older phones were all a bit of a nightmare. It's only recently most are now finally converging into using MicroUSB. Every phone had a different data socket, requiring the cable that came with the phone, so if you lost the cable you were stuck and had to buy another, and they all had different power connectors. Even phones from the same makers were different. Quite mad, but I suppose they were all developing and hadn't reached the conclusion that USB could do everything they needed.

And that brings me to the question of why Apple needs a connector that supports more than USB? USB2 is good enough to stream audio and video, as well as data and power. I bet they won't support USB3 either once it starts migrating down to other mobile devices.

Indeed, apparently USB-to-Lightning cables are all USB2. Then again, it may be possible to upgrade it to USB3 later with a firmware revision.

As for not using USB2, the only thing I can speculate is whether or not it can handle HD streaming. One thing that Lightning is meant to do is do HDMI output.

Actually, that raises a question for me. As someone who's not terribly au-fait with Android, are there equivalent devices and connectors that allow you to plug an Android device into your stereo/HDTV/whatever? I assume there must be...
