Right, I'm new here and I already have a though one.
I have an Amiga 1200 bought a couple of years ago, used only three or four times. I also bought an ACA1230/56 and an Indy MKII - both not (yet) fitted.
All this stuff sat unused on my desk for looong years, mainly for lack of time. :blased:
Yesterday I decided to give this stuff a try, and after fitting the ACA, I fired up the Amiga. I immediately heard a "POP" noise  and smoke started to come out from the PSU. Not good.
I'm trying now with my A500 PSU and the Amiga 1200 does power on, but my TV set doesn't get any signal from either the SCART cable or the RCA connectors. When the audio RCA are connected though, there is a loud beeping sound. Also, I cannot hear the "click" sound from the floppy drive anymore.
More details on the setup:
- Everything was bought brand new from Amigakit, including the PSU
- PSU is a 'light type' one
- Board is rev 1.4D, and was recapped from Amigakit
What should i do now? Throw everything out of the window? Contact Amigakit and send back board & ACA or/and open a support ticket, even if warranty has expired a long ago?

Well first of all take the ACA out, I hope it's not damaged, so test it on another Amiga 1200 with another PSU.

You could try to contact Amigakit, but I doubt they will fix it in warranty.

If they say no, take out the board and look for burn marks.
That will give us a better idea of what is fried.

Thanks Buzz, I will search for burnt areas.
Unfortunately I do not have another A1200 to test my ACA... If I'm not able to fix this issue I will try to contact Amigakit, I will gladly pay for the repair.

please don't turn on your a1200, if you want to keep the warranty don't do anything (^^) and see with amigakit
but if you want to do something
- put off the aca
- look at the motherboard (leakage ander the caps, if yes don't turn on your a1200 and change the caps)
- if the mobo looks in good shape test the motherboard to be sure anything was burnt (be careful)
- i think only the PSU burnt but be careful
- anyway, change the caps of your a1200

- if help needed you can send me a PM

Hello mate!
I don't know where "The Dungeon" is in Italy :) but... if it is not too far from BG and you want to come to my place, I have a spare A1200 mainboard, a spare A1200 complete set, and at least 3 PSUs that we can use to check if your ACA and MK2 still work...
I am not able to fix the system (lack of soldering equipment and skills :picard ) but, if you are interested, here in the forum there are a few guys from Italy that could help you...
Feel free to send me a PM anytime!
Bye, Liviux76

Done! Being an international forum I didn't realize region was so important.

Too late I'm afraid... I used my A500 PSU to fire up the miggy, without the ACA obviously. I had a quick glance at the motherboard and I honestly cannot see any burn marks - although I will have a more accurate inspection late this night (I'm at work right now). If I only have to recap the board (which I hope) I will ask Amigakit.

Liviux, I'm in Gallarate (near Varese)... I think it's about 100km from Bergamo. I will check the motherboard and eventually I will send a PM to you.

For now, thanks everyone for the good advices!

OK, I've carefully checked both the motherboard and the ACA, and there are no burning marks whatsoever. I think the best thing is to send back the board and the ACA to Amigakit for further testing & repair, right?

As for the PSU, I obviously need a new one. Should I buy another 'light' Amiga one, or use my A500 one? I've also seen a compact model for sale on the other bay, shoud I go for one of these? :ninja:

Thanks Hivernaal! I've contacted Amigakit, I will see what they can do ... I'll write also to you in the meantime :)
