I am interested in getting my PAL snes modded so that it will play ntsc games, first of all i wanted to know is it a good idea or not are there any pros and cons about getting it done.

I have found a site online claiming that the will do a full region mod with the switches and they will also widen the cart slot and put in some custom blue led's however they are asking for £25 for the service which i don't grudge i just don't know the site well enough and was wondering if anybody has bought off them in the past.

Please let me know if i am allowed to post the site on here as i don't want to get anyone or myself into bother.

Any info is greatly appreciated

There are also people here on Amibay that can do the work for you, if you open a request in the service area you might find a better deal.

As for the site in question, is this console passion? They are a reputable company, I can confirm that and many here have used their service.

I can't think to any negative reasons not to do it, once modded you can play games from any region (PAL/NTSC/-J, at 60hz (many games run nicer and fill the screen fully at 60hz) Some PAL games wont run at 60hz without glitches though, of course you can play the NTSC version.

I think my Snes was done by Console Passion, I bought it here on Amibay:

I'm confident a link is quite OK.

As far as I know with the SNES there is a difference between PAL / NTSC (which is not where the region lockout lies)...but also with the CIC lockout chip, and physical cartridge shape (which both determine region lockout).

I'm assuming all you're really after is to play games faster in NTSC than PAL? Or perhaps there's some other reason? So, depending on what it is you are trying to achive, the funds may be better off going towards a SNES Everdrive (which will do a whole lot of things), or perhaps just a simpler import adaptor, if that will provide a solution you're happy with?

or perhaps just a simpler import adaptor

There are a fair few games which don't work well on import adaptors but this isn't a bad call.

The Everdrive option I think is by far the best but not cheap.

An additional NTSC console could be picked up as this gets around the American carts being a different shape.

Aren't Super Famicom carts similar to PAL carts though? So region modding in that sense will allow for Japanese imports.

Lot's to ponder but for my money save up and get an Everdrive

Yes J-NTSC Cart shape is the same as PAL :)

I'd suggest installing a supercic chip and getting an everdrive or sd2snes. I've installed a few supercic chips so far and they're not too difficult and they auto switch the region of the machine depending on the game loaded. Plus you can play both pal and ntsc roms from the everdrive/sd2snes and not need to edit the cartridge slot. Plus it's all switchless meaning the console looks completely stock :)

Here's a thread showing my supercic install

Yeah I had thought about buying an everdrive although something in the back of my head is saying I would rather have a back catalogue of proper snes games either on PAL or NTSC, yes it is console passion and although they also offer a switch less mod I think I would rather just go for the old mod with the switches plus it's only £25 which I think is great but I'm still waiting to here back from them.

Cheers for the help guys again any other input or info is appreciated.
