After about 4 days of fussing with this Amiga, wanting to throw it at times to get it operational, I finally did it. Lots of help from the IRC room and whatnot and reading tons of stuff online.

Its an a1200 thats stock other then a 4GB CF Card HD and an EasyNet Card.. I was able to get it online via AmiTCP, and I got AmIRC up on it.

It def needs more ram.. before I can really do much else with it.

But its fun, I needed a challenge, Doing stuff with the Apple stuff is stuff I already know.. The amiga was a whole different ball game.

Nice work! I'm suitably impressed that you've got an IP stack running on a stock A1200 with just ChipRAM!

Get yourself a fast '030 with 16MB+ of FastRAM and you'll be laughing!

As we can all attest, this hobby is sometimes hell on Earth, but it's so satisfying and rewarding when you finally get it working right, isn't it?

Enjoy your A1200, you deserve it!

Yea good job AppleIIFan. I am glad you are enjoying your A1200.

Nice one AppleIIfan; i think the Amiga is the closest of the old schoo machines to the Apple and you will enjoy it :)

Cheers

John

PS - going to PM you for a bit of advice on an apple machine :)

That understandable

The Amiga is miles better than ATARI ST or even Atari STE!!!

Enjoy your Amiga :D

I'm a first time A1200 owner too, woohoo! I'm at the point where I need to find an "Amiga for Dummies" type of resource!!

I also recently got my first Amiga after bypassing them to become an Acorn user back in the day. The 1200 is frustrating as hell, but much awesomeness to be discovered when things finally work!

I got a good deal on 8meg fast ram from Jon Hare. I think he has more

Yeah its been a learning experience.. Im going with a processor upgrade & RAM for it.. and then an Indivision VGA for it as well. That should be plenty for what I need
