Well they are built like tanks that's for sure, but going from this to state that it was military spec... For instance, I doubt that an A2000 will survive an EMP strike.
Well, most items that are MilSpec probably won't survive an EMP strike..

As I understand it (which is not much at all), in order to be MilSpec, something has to be "tested and inspected" by the government.

I supposed it's "possible" that at some time, the government wanted Amigas and did that, but I seriously doubt it...

I think it's much more likely that this was someone who was referring to the fact that these things are built like tanks, and used the phrase to make it sound more official..

And, I'm wondering if when challenged, this person responded with "I know what I'm talking about and it's fact," rather than "I just meant they are built really well."

Of course, that last part is speculation. I missed the whole period that this was happening. But I've seen people do that lots of times when they say something that sounds official, and get challenged on it..

(p.s. Side story. I missed the whole time period that those things happened. When I finally got back into the Amiga, I did so through a craigslist post. And it was D whom I bought my Amiga 500 from. I then learned about the "history" afterwards. He does really prefer the Amiga 2000. I remember he did talk about that. I don't remember the word MilSpec coming up tho.)

Doomy was right about the A2000 being the best amiga. It is the only one which can be easily expanded without hurting your hands on razor-like parts just to plug some cable, without risking shorting and burning expensive parts each time you open the computer, and that does not require 2 hours to mount/dismount the whole computer for changing a mere floppy drive,
not to mention the air flow.
On this aspect the A3000 is certainly the worst ever, closely followed by the A4000.

heahea...that jingle made me brace for impact:picard...and GF left the livingroom :help:

Well, I don't know very much abut that matter but for what I know mil spec on electronics are mainly to be extra-heat tolerant on components (like I/Cs and so), better toleration to impacts and vibrations and perhaps extra RF shielding, mainly designed for using it in harsh environments, but really I don't know much about that matter.

I've once seen a mil-spec laptop used for industrial purposes (quality inspections on turbines and such) and for sure it was rough, protected with rubber surrounding all the case and so. :o

Needless to say than those are insanely expensive :)

Yep I missed that "mil-spec amiga era" too  and was intrigued in was it all about, well, I'd not speak badly about an individual that I really don't know and hasn't done me anything wrong.

But I think that this kind of people mainly got this kind of bad reputation not because their misconceptions (after all, anyone could be wrong in a matter) but mainly for their grandiloquent aseverations and by the way they treat others, say being disrespectful among other individuals, acepting no critics on their behaviors or acepting them very baldly, in short: Acting like a troll every time and so. But also speculating here. :)

Now I can't get out of my head this damm "only amiga" jingle loop
Same here.

There ain't no such thing as a milspec Amiga methinks. Most recent example i believe we saw an A2000 changing shape by postal misbehaviour.
I could call my first A1000 milspec due to it "serving" with me aboard all the vessels i served from 1987 upto 2001, but it would be rather unfair.. :)

damn you rkauer..
i managed not to watch that only amiga song but now i have..
"Mia Heee miao ooohh mia ahh mia ha ha" stuck in my head.
And i went off to you tube to watch the video of the guy dancing to it. followed by the frankly hillarious afro ninja clip.

and which country's military spec are we talking about here...
it could make a big diference..
i mean i doubt ethiopia's military spec is much more than a zx81..

That's because they do not want us to know about their top-secret military spec abacus. :shhh:

The A2000 which changed shape could only have been caused by it being run over by a tank :p

Well, I know a friend that had Amiga 4000 that survived about 400 volt AC on the mains plug (and was a canadian 4000, a 110 volt one), this happened due to a wrong position of a 220 to 115 Volt transformer, when it was powered on, the 4000 power lights even blinked for a second. :o

When it happened (on a scene party) the owner nearly faints as it was loaded with a CS-PPC 060/604@233, a G-Rexx and all that expensive stuff, luckily enough the only casuality was a fuse on the PSU, we even fixed it a the same party, so acording to this, is the 4000 mil spec also ?

Why would he want an A4000 or A1200? Those are filled with weak surface mount components, while everybody knows that only computers with through-hole soldered components are truly reliable!
