Hi Ed,

I tried the drive sadly it doesn't work with a normal or twisted cable, assume it needs an adapter (like steady's)

It's a Sony MPF920, I know these can be modded to work on normal Amiga Floppy though so it possible might be faulty.

Furthermore it's slightly yellowed on the bezel (unless it's meant to be cream not white) strange if it is yellowed as it's never see the light of day!

Today I fitted an IDE DVD drive to replace the old CD-ROM drive. It was surprisingly hard to find one I liked the look of, I wanted something simple with no branding/decals and as close to the colour of the Amiga fascia as possible. But aside from aesthetics I also wanted a drive that was much shallower, now there's a good couple of inches between the back of the drive and the PSU and HD. :)

that looks really nice bud.:)

if the colour match bothers you,you can still find them in cream every now and then for not alot.it just takes a bit of waiting and looking.

Nice addition. Makes you realise how small the A4k case is compared to modern-day PeeCees

A few new additions today - firstly, I have added a rear mounted CF card slot, with a 4GB card to act as a backup and transfer drive without having to remove the case. As per my other thread I had a bit of a nightmare getting it all wired up, but managed to do it in the end using a 24" round IDE cable. Secondly, I hooked up a CD-ROM audio cable to the motherboard, so now I have CD audio when playing CD32 games. Finally, I added a 68882 FPU to my 030 processor card. No real need for it, but why not :) According to SysSpeed it has increased the MIPS from 3.96 to 4.37, and I also now have some MFlops

After nearly 18 months of sitting in a cupboard and only being pulled out occasionally, I'm very pleased to have my Amiga set up on its own desk again in my new flat, and that means the modding can begin again :) I have just installed an A3640 while I try and get hold of an 060 card. Here's the new setup - as you can see I'm trying to keep it 'authentic', but the JBL speakers sound so good I can't get rid of them. I tried a couple of pairs of 90s PC speakers (including some matching Commodore ones) but audio has really improved in the last 20 years!

The only downside is my 'new' keyboard and mouse are so white they make the Amiga and monitor look really yellow

Yeah those speakers have got to go :P

edit:

ps. if you go for an 060 it's next to pointless without RTG Graphics. In which case you'd need a VGA Monitor.

The main things I want to run well are Doom/Quake, and some of the later SCUMM games such Sam & Max, The Dig etc. They should all run fine at 640 x 480 I assume?

Doom will be fine in AGA, Quake is slow in AGA unless you have 66 (better 80mhz) 060

Quake is a little better in RTG but you wont get 640x480 without RTG it will run in 320x200, and to be fair 640x480 is slow unless you have a CSMkIII or PPC as they're the only ones with enough memory bandwith. Or a 3D Card like a Mediator/Prometheus + Voodoo in Warp3D.

I know there is a Scumm Port and I think this does do the larger screen modes in AGA (You'd need to check) as for how fast they run I'm not 100% sure but there is a long thread on the subject.

In fact tell a lie I have played the Dig on 060 and I think it was smooth in AGA. Oh and also Full Throttle. So I think you will be ok with ScummVM in AGA.

Yeah I've seen your Dig video, looked awesome :) that's basically what I want my Amiga to do, play all the 90s games that look crap on a modern LCD monitor, I could of course play them all via emulators on my iMac but these 320x240 and 640x480 games don't quite have the same charm on a 27" widescreen monitor

Long overdue update! I must admit I haven't had much time to use my favourite computer in recent months/years, so it was nice to get it out of the cupboard and do some tinkering again. I have finally got round to a job I've been wanting to do since I first bought it, replacing the Zorro Tandem IDE card with the AmigaKit IDE splitter:

Much tidier!
