Hi!

Thought I would share pics of my new toy with you!

I finally took the plunge and bought a solution to play games from SD Card on my C64, I never had a C64 back in the day, in fact I only got this one a few months ago, my first ever!

With the advice of you awesome lot I decided to go with the SD2IEC, I bought it from the official site and it was delivered in only a few days and looks pretty sweet!

It's really easy to setup. just plug it in and follow the simple instructions here:

http://www.sd2iec.co.uk/id6.html

Took me less than 5 minutes to format the SD and put a few Games on it (.D64's) and I'm already up and running! And I'm a complete Novice so it must be simple! :ninja:

Loading is apparently the same speed as a real 1541, and some say a bit slow but certainly seems fast enough for me and a damn site faster than tape!

I'll probably look into jiffydos or a fast loader cart at some point but for now it does exactly what I need and I'll be spending some time getting to know all the features better soon!

great

great

its a great device. very easy to use. i would get a fast loader cart though. i use mine with epyx fastload. or you should be able to put a fast load util on the sd card.

The SD2IEC works with many fastload cartridges, such as Action Replay, Final Cartridge III, JiffyDOS, etc. You can also get a file browser that you can put in the root of the SD card. Makes getting through directories much easier!

Nice stuff Steve!

Heather

Thanks guys n girls :-)

There are a couple of fast loader carts on ebay right now and one is the epyx.

I'm not bothered much by the wait though, it's a good chance to check Amibay for bargains :-)

@tokyoracer,

If you follow the link in post #1 they have a variety of cases and I chose this one to match my C64 B-)
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.5; en-gb; HTC_DesireHD Build/GRJ90) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1

See if you can Finished JOE Blade in 20 Mins once you deactive the bomb:p

Grab the wedge software on a .D64 image and use it while your JiffyDOS don't shows up.

Acts exactly like a JiffyDOS ROM but in software. Might eat a few of the scarce memory.

fast loader carts only speed up the 1st prg file, data is then loaded at normal speed, best option is jiffydos as this speeds everything up.

I have a boxed like new action reply VI in another thread if your interested.

i would just wait for jiffydos, the cartridge only works on the first .prg file as others have said.(as your using file browser it will be the first and only thing sped up)

Cheers guys. Well for now I'm pretty satisfied. Jiffydos seems the way to go in the long term so I'll be researching that a bit :)

I certainly don't want to spend the money associated with the 1541U as I will never use all it's features, really I just want to play a few Games I enjoyed as a kid on other platforms, and some I missed out on and this will do the job just fine!

I have a kind offer of an epyx fast loader for postage costs so I might just take the kind Amibayer up on their generosity

In the mean time I fixed the links on post #1 in case anyone wants to view the 'big pics'

Cheers!

Steve.

oh,i just remembered.

if you go for jiffydos youll have to remove the rom on your 64 to install it.

and you have a 64C?, so it will require you to desolder the rom.

Just a small update, but a huge thank you to SkyDivingGirl who very kindly sent me a Fast Loader cart for my C64 :grouphug:

It really makes a massive difference to the inital .prg loading times, I'm absolutely delighted with it, I'm really pleased with this setup now :)

I made a short Video, I'm sure 1541U users will still say it's slow, but for me, Its perfect.

Thanks again Heather

Yay! I'm glad it arrived safe and sound. I just wish the label were in a bit better condition. :)

Be sure to read the manual. Instead of typing LOAD"*",8,1 you can just type %* . I see that the menu program loads super fast. Do you see a big speed difference when loading a program from the menu system?

Again, I really hope you enjoy the cartridge. It's a great solution until you decided to get JiffyDOS.
