whdload is started without PRELOAD option it seems, tell igame to set PRELOAD and try again...

Thanks Wepl for coming here so fast and helping me

Actually, i have tried to activate and deactivate the PRELOAD option in the info file and i still have the black screen problem. The game seems to preload though as i have a long HD access before the black screen. How comes that the quit key does not work in that case with v17 whereas it works with 16.x?

My 1000th post on amibay to expose the solution.

It is all PICASSO96 fault (unless it is kickemu fault) that is in some way non compatible with the kickemu whdload games.

I found the solution thanks to this thread https://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?p=253558#post253558

Now i need either to fix Picasso96 or go CGX (and i hope i won't have to do that because Cybergraphx is such a mess).

kickemu doesn't add any specific compatibility issues, system degrading is independent from it

how many games do you have tried?

your snoopdos log should include functions System and Tooltypes, also it's cut in width

what do you mean with comparative?
is that a working setup?

please provide a complete snoopdos log (see above) from the non working setup.

are there non kickemu games working?
if yes, which ones for example?

Hi.

Ok i'm going to make another SnoopDOS but i need to step back to WHDLoad 16.X for that because when i get the black screen with v17 the quit key does not work and i loose my log.

The above log is from a working setup (my A1200), the log on the first page is from the non working setup.

I have tried dozens of kick emu games but i still use Monkey 1 for test.
Working games include Lotus 2, Beast 1 and several non kick emu games, but i haven't the time to much more.

Yeah, i have an A2386.
However, the A2386 is also installed ine the secondary partition (without Picasso96) and WHDLOAD works.

So, what could be necessary to correct the problem? Modify Picasso 96 or modify kickemu?

Could also possible be the problem. I don't now how to get off the Spectrum Int. Maybe only by deactivating the Picasso Driver for this Card. Please try this and check using Scout if the Int disappears.

If Picass96 is uninstalled, there is no more INT from the Spectrum.

Big improvement here!!!

I had already tried the newer spectrum.card and GDsomething.chip from the Picasso96 2.c beta version and i still had the WHDLOAD problem, with other problems like Shapeshifter not working.
The files from Picasso96 2.0 and 2.1b appear to be the same regarding the Spectrum.

Aminet also has an older version from 1997 which is 1.25.
I tried the Spectrum files from this one, and WHDLOAD is working now.
The interrupt of the Spectrum does not exist anymore in Scout.

Now i have to check thoroughly the other softwares of this setup to be sure.


EDIT: these older files are very poor concerning shapeshifter, which freezes almost as soon as the finder is loaded, with my CardTrickEVD driver.

According to the changelog the interrupt has been added in release 1.36:

Changes in 1.36:
- This time PhotoGenics really does no longer open 2 color screens )
- Fixed p96CloseScreen bug which resulted in MungWall hits
- Fixed icon paint error in planar modes (BOBs with mask)
- Retina BLT Z3: remaining 24 bit panning problem fixed
- Changed the way layers.library handles Picasso96 PIP windows
- Spectrum and Piccolo boards now support interupts
- Reduced maximum polling time if waiting for a vertical retrace. This
will solve problems with DPMS on Cirrus GD542x based boards, which do
not generate display timings in certain blanking levels
- PicassoIV: merged API support for upcoming add-on modules
- Pixel64: fixed board driver setup (color palette routines)

There is nothing WHDLoad can do about.

You mean a line in whdload.prefs such as the lines for deactivating/reactivating the USB stack? Would be cool because those older drivers make any video setup of shapeshifter 3.11 very unstable and i like the MAc emulator.
Besides, i suspect other boards might suffer from this problem, such as the Piccolo64 from the other thread in Amibay/AmiOracle.

I see that there is a new beta version of WHDLoad

17.1 (08.01.2012) - fix: formatting of termination reason string in register dump fixed on very long texts (Psygore) - fix: if the vbr is moved by WHDLoad the interrupts of levels 4-6 (vectors $70..$78) are directly forwarded to the installed program now, in previous releases all the sanity checks and checks for the keyboard were done in each interrupt which has increased the latency and duration of the interrupts, now these checks are only performed in interrupt levels 1-3 or if the option CheckInts/S is used for all levels it seems that the increased amount of code put into the interrupts by the later WHDLoad versions has caused problems with several games, this is hopefully fixed now and these games will work with the current WHDLoad as good as with versions 16.8 or 16.9


The readme file mentions something about interrupt 6, which is the one involved in this Picasso 96 case. Should this version be compatible with latest Picasso96 drivers for the Spectrum and Piccolo?

the change in whdload only reduces latency, I doubt that it will change anything regarding the spectrum problem because the problem here is very probably that the ints by card get not acknowledged

Indeed, downgrading to the old picasso driver is ok with WHDload and WB, but Shape****er is so unstable that it crashes in a few seconds whatever Shapeshifter setup i use.
That's really annoying that there is always something failing.
