Hi guys, i'm having some trouble installing workbench on my A600HD.

Originally it has a 20 or 40Mb HD which boots no problem to workbench. At some point I had replaced the 2.05 ROM to a 3.1 ROM and replaced the HD to a 176MB from an A1200 and installed WB 3.1.

Anyway, some time ago I removed the 3.1 ROM to install it in my A2000 and put back the 2.05 37.300 ROM.

Now the HD refuses to boot and when switched on only goes to the INSERT DISK purple screen. The HD works because i booted up using a WB 2.04 Install disk and ran HDtoolbox which found the HD and once i quit it shows the 2 partitions.

My problem is that it won't boot and only shows the purple insert disk screen. I tried to use the 2.04 install disk to prep & install WB 2.04 or 2.05 but it won't work because its an A3000 Install disk.

I only have copies of 2.05 disks but not the install disk and I have original copies of 2.04 but again no install disk other than the 2.04 A3000 install disk.

How can I get round this to install 2.05 and get my A600 booting up to WB from HD again ?

The 2.05 37.300 ROMs have problems with hard disks greater than 40 mb. It may work or not. This problem was solved in the 2.05 37.350 ROMs!

sometimes it works with a soft reset (thee finger salute) after it shows the insert disk screen.

I tried 3 finger salute but nothing. Does not even show in the early startup.

But then how come If i run HDtoolbox it will detect the HD and once it does it even shows the drive icons and I can access the files ?

37.300 is a very finicky ROM revision. Replace it or replace the HD. I noticed that most IBM (Hitachi?) models works flawlessly.

The drive is a Seagate 170MB which was the factory drive in my A1200.

Ok, I will buy a Kickstart 3.1 ROM. Till then is this a good option to get it running ?

I install Workbench 3.1 or CW 3.1 using WinUAE

&

Prepare a custom Workbench 2.0 disk containing S-Kick & a 3.1 ROM file which I can use to "S-Kick" the A600 into Kickstart 3.1?

I have got 2MB of RAM so it should be ok like this till I get the ROM no ?

As @rkauer saids the 37.300 is the first one with IDE support but it have a lot of issues with IDE peripheals.

Best is to change it for 37.350 or 40.63 (3.1)

My 37.300 in my 600 works flawlesly with my 4gb drive :/
