Guys I'm trying to get my 32GB CF card setup for WB 3.9 using winuae. But when I click on install (After HDTools has read the Card). All I get Error 7 in drive description. It say's the same with a real 32GB hard-drive too (Not with 20 GB Real hard-drives though or 16GB CF Cards). What does that mean and anyway getting around that...

Manufactures name is Initio
Drive name is CF Card
size is 29.8GB..

1: Make sure the CF card is empty. Start CMD as administrator. Run diskpart. "list disk", "select disk <number of cf card>" (DO NOT SELECT WRONG DISK), "clean".
2: Run WinUAE as administrator
3: When adding the disk in WinUAE, I found that setting the HD Controller to "UAE" makes HDTools read the correct name, etc. It works if set to IDE0 as well, but then you get some generic IDE channel name. Makes NO difference, just looks better =)

Just type in the drive description manually (Type 7 error just means it can't read it)

Call it whatever you like, Fred Bloggs, John Smith, Transcend, dosen't matter ;)

Geometries will be read correctly, that's the only data that matters.

I typed in a different name in the Drive name box but still error 7 GRRRR

is there any data readable from the PC on that partition?

Wipedisk app take google to find it and will help you for sure, after wipe 0 the CF run winuae how the other friends tell you , good lucke

Nope No data on the CF card, cos it's brand new. But I did format it Just to make sure.. But still the same problem with all cards that are 32GB in size, but not with 16GB ones. What's going on. I can't use 32GB cards or real hard-drives.. Oh if set to IDE0 then the card is not seen by HDinstallTools

From here:

Hdtoolbox says 'Unit is not a disk (Type 7)'
Don't worry, nothing is wrong. Your removable type card is mistaken for an optical removable media (CDR, etc) by hdtoolbox.
This occurs with all cards that report as removable media (848A), when you go to 'change drive type' and select 'read configuration'.
Just ignore the message, fill out your own manufacturer and model info and proceed to partition the card.

I did read that steve but this is what I get then I click on install:

Initio CF CARD 1.06

Block zero write attempt, but drive has one or more mounted PC partitions or WinUAE does not have Administrator privileges. Erase the drive or unmount all PC partitions first. Then I click on Ok and thats when the error 7 comes up. Theres is no PC partitions on the card (I deleted the whole partition) and I ran WinUAE as Administrator. But that didn't work either

New cards have a FAT partition and it needs to be completely empty, i.e. no partitions. Removing it is done by using diskpart like written above.

Theres no FAT partition on the card cos I removed it with Paragon Partition Manager and still HDToolbox won't work with the card....

ok I was unclear.. even a partition is "data"

so Windows finds it as an empty disk?

ok in win7:

press startbutton. enter cmd (as search for it) rightclick. run as administrator

didskpart

list disk

note the number of your disk with CF. (hint: size)
lets say its 3

select disk 3
list partition

you will see a partition. this is why its wrong.
select partition 1
delete partition
exit

now rightclick in Winuae -> run as administrator.

NOW you will be able to use it

The partition is deleted on the card (Windows 7 Don't see the card anymore). But still the same problem (This is a pain in me ass)

Guys I was able to partition the card (I was told to delete the partition first But it didn't work the first time). Thanks for all your help. Now I have one more question (I hope it's a easy one) How do I go about running CD32 ISO images that I've transfered to the 16GB partition on the Card (Can it be done)

Ahh ok, the problem is your USB card reader. Just hook the CF up to a real Amiga, create your partitions there and then prep on the PC. Or buy another USB reader.

I have this block zero write nonsense with one of my HDD caddies.

Just seen your update. I don't think you can run CD32 games from ISO images within Workbench, you can mount ISO's there are a few tools on Aminet. But only stuff that runs from within Workbench will work. The best real CD32 Emulation is from IDEFix97 or Squrrel SCSI driver package and needs real CDROM AFAIK.

But hey, most CD32 Games have a WHDLoad version
