Hi everyone,

I just bought a turbocharger for my SAAB from an online company in the UK and it was advertised as a SAAB manufactured part. The sale price is based on the return of my broken turbocharger in exchange.

It turns out that the part I've been sent is from China and looks like a carbon copy of the original but is not a genuine SAAB part. It's gauranteed for 1 year only if fitted by a qualified mechanic.

I'm reluctant to part exchange my genuine Garrett turbo (even though it's broken) for this chinese one but can't afford a more expensive alternative.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Regards,
Ed.

Stuff like that really needs to be genuine. You should contact your supplier and say this wasn't what you expected. I wouldn't risk an important component like that with a cheap copy myself.
It's well worth seeking official re-con's or ones from brakers yards if you can. Also theres all sorts of auto-supermarkets in the UK too.

can you not get the Garrett refurbed?

talk to tubro dynamics [FONT=&quot]01202 233927, great guys, really helpful.

throw the chocolate turbo back at the supplier as it is not as ordered.

get the garrett back in working order and enjoy your SAAB

I wouldnt put a chinese copy of a turbo on, send it back as not fit for purpose, get yours back and get it rebuilt...
Is it a garrett Gt1749? Or is it an older pre gm saab?

Neobrothers.co.uk has genuine Mitsubishi TD04-15 turbo for rather a reasonable price. Return the China turbo and get a Mitsu. Then just flash your ECU with Aero software.

When the Garrett in my Saab 9-5 started showing signs of giving up, I got the Mitsu from Neo Brothers with the new oil lines and a new cobra intake locally as I got a Mitsu meant for '06> Saabs. If you take the Mitsu for <'05, you don't have to change the cobra intake. I then had the ECU flashed with Biopower Aero SW. A nice boost in performance, I must say.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated. It's a GT1752S (T plate 1999).

The cost of this one is half the price of a reconditioned genuine part and a about 1/3rd of the price of a new Garrett part. tbh I can't afford the higher costs. Wish I knew about turbo dynamics beforehand, thanks Justin .

Cheers,
Ed.
