Hello every one,as I start to push 60 a revival has taken place in my life.Yes thats right my Amiga.Ive hauled my A500 around from coast to coast and finally now down in the south west .I was one of those, way back in 1987 or so who made that move to neither PC or Mac and suffered all along.
Nothing ever transpired with Commodor for me and life took over and my career took me ever farther away from using my Amiga I was in the main stream were there was no room or even anyone around it seemed who new anything about the "Amiga"
Years later now and a premature end to a good career due to illness, disability has given me time to dig out all my old computer stuff and find that its all new again.
And so here I am looking for answers hoping to share.
My name is Jeremy Richards
Amiga 500 pretty much stock with the addition of the trapdoor expansion, bought in San Francisco in '87 its all still with me as I kept every thing boxes papers everything. Its all set up again and Im enjoying my Amiga like I never did and wondering why.

Welcome aboard! It's allways nice to have new "reborn Amigans" joining us

Welcome and good to hear you have found the Amiga interest again!

Hi Jeremy! Welcome to AmiBay!

Here we have people of all ages and plenty of people with experience to answer pretty much any Amiga questions you may have! It's really great that you still have your original A500 because most people, like me, sold off their original equipment long ago and had to buy new stuff to get back into the hobby.

If you've got a hard drive side car for your A500 then you already have one of the best A500 upgrades you can get. There are plenty of projects made by people on this forum that will allow you to upgrade the memory and do many other things with your A500. :D

Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

Take care,

Heather

Hi and welcome. As Heather said there is no age range for Amiga enthusiasts, and there are more retired fans that you might think.

It is also never been a better time to get back into the Amiga with a thriving community and loads of hardware projects in development, plus new hardware still being made to support the Amiga.

With your A500, if you don't have any form of Harddrive that connects to the side expansion then this is definitely something for you to consider in the future. A GVP A590 or GVP HD8+ Impact Series II would add a HDD and some fast ram to the system, making it a great system to explore everything it has to offer. Or go even further and look for something like a GVP A530, which is a 68030 accelerator as well as adding HDD and ram. Loads of expansion possibilities to get a lot out of your Amiga.

Welcome to AmiNiceBay.

Just one word of warning - check the trap door RAM board and make sure if there is a battery that it hasn't leaked.

That is a very good tip. It might be worth you removing the battery even if it looks OK, because it will be over 20 years old now and probably won't hold a charge anyway, so removing it will prevent it leaking in the future and damaging the Amiga. You can normally just remove them with some wire cutters safely.

All removing the battery would do is stop the Amiga remembering the time when switched off, but it will continue to work OK.
