Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I've just restored an A1200 motherboard and added a 4gb cf card. I'm quite new to this and I noticed that when the card is installed, WB 3.1 reports about 500k less chip ram in the bar at the top. Is this normal?
Without the cf, it's 1,87x,xxx
With it, it reports 1,36x,xxx

Thanks.
Andy.

@Andy

Putting a HD or CF card into a 1200 will pinch some of your Ram as it will be needed for buffering the HD/CF.

Great. Thanks Dave!
I'm grateful that nothing is wrong.

Andy.
Same happens with a hard drive, the more partitions you have the more memory is used to buffer them all. If you add fast ram WB will use that instead of chip ram so you won't have to boot without startup sequence to load games.

Thanks Acid. Looks like I'm in the market for some fast ram then :D

Assuming your CF card is called DH0, just open a shell and type "addbuffers dh0:"
This will let you know how many buffers are being used.

You can also add buffers and take them away too, such as: "addbuffers dh0: -100"
Or, "addbuffers dh0: 200"

If you want to change the number of buffers permenantly, you'll need to use HDToolbox, or equivalent.
