Anybody used it yet?

Been trying to find out when it's going to be released standalone, but Amigakit simply don't reply to emails, as we all know.

Is it possible to extract it from a 600GS somehow?

I'm tired of waiting.

Great question. I was going to order an 600GS just for the OctaMed and work processor exclusives, but there is no guarantee they will run under Amiga OS considering the GS uses AROS and the applications could have a dependency on the Arm graphics library on that machine. I would like to also know if the executables can be copied off that machine and run on a real machine?

I bought a A600GS to get Octamed 8 off of it to run on my X5000, and it will not run as it asks for a key file. I've looked at every directory in all the partitions on it, and am unable to see what the key file is, everything looks just like a normal Workbench OS to me.

I will hook up a midi interface to the A600GS just to get used to the program, as I've asked AmigaKit repeatedly for the box set/download release date and have heard nothing. I just keep checking everyday and use BnP and Octamed SS 1.03b on my X5000 in the meanwhile. It's frustrating as the official wiki for Octamed 8 says it's available for sale, but I looked on Amistore, AmigaKit and every other source listed and nothing. I wish more music software was available for an OS4 X5000, but at least it emulates classic programs at speed.

Curious - what is the reason to use Octamed 8 over the versions of Octamed we've all had for decades? From what I understand, there wasn't much of an improvement.

AHI support for starters. Plus many MANY improvements. Hopefully.

Again, I'm curious - what bugs did you find? I don't suppose you had a list? In any case, it's good to hear they are looking into fixing them.

My motivation is to use both AHI and CAMD support for using my Roland Ax Edge wirelessly (using the Roland usb dongle and midi interface, both class compliant) on my X5040. Also I'm hoping it will be compiled for OS4.1 FE. I'm currently using Horny, and had to abandon using Octamed SS 1.03b under emulation and BnP OS4.1 compiled version as neither worked no matter what I was using, but both work fine on the A600. It's just a pain to use the A600GS for a lot, especially since I'm unable to take the program off of it.

I wonder why the separate digital download and box release hasn't happened. I remember the initial announcement saying it was going to be available separately in 2024!

Well, I bought the A600GS and pre-ordered the new 1200 motherboard, as it has it on an SD card, so will see if that works. Really wish they would release it separately though, for an os4 system.
