I want to sell some stuff, and it looks like it'll be going outside the UK.

I can't reg a paypal account as they've decided I'm not who I say I am even after seeing the bloody passport.

How would I go about getting paid? I looked into nochex but they want fifty quid for an account that can take international card payments. No chance!

Oh, and I've got ninety quid stuck in my paypal that they won't let me have. The only option is to do a bank transfer and guess what! You can't add a bank account because that's one of the limitations.:double

Agree with John, call them, PayPal has an automated system for these limitations, proving identity is much easier on the phone, you might get it lifted right there and then. Else it's not unusual from them to ask for copies of more ID's and ccards - just give it some patience if things won't happen immediately.

The limitation is very old (last year) I've already talked about it on this board. After seeing everything paypal has decided I'm a fraudulent business. Even though I'm not a business.

Edit: just rang them, they claim the only options are to either transfer using western union (with a high fee) or into someone else's paypal account. When I said "So you're saying I should call my solicitor?" she immediately hung up!

Still, anyone know an alternative for international use? I'm looking into google checkout now.

It is most likely an issue of the publisher of your card. I would contact them first and then take care of things with paypal. Remember that you have to state your name and surname as on your card and also provide them with the billing address of your card as it has been registered by the publisher.

Rang them again.

Got the same woman, she pretended not to know me and then said she could remove the limitation on adding bank accounts, but not remove my bank account from the other-lost-to-the-ages paypal account. I checked my paypal, and yep, I can now add a bank account.

Anyone got any suggestions for which bank to go for? Since I'm going to need a new bank account to get this money from paypal.

I use lloyds, once you have internet banking set up - opening a (another) new account is just a case of filling some stuff out online (obviously no good for you right now, but in the future if you need another account - its very easy to do).

Or the Halifax if you can pay in more than £1000 a month and have at least a couple of DDs.

They'll pay you 100 smackers for opening the account

Why paypal? You guys have few other systems around UK and EU - Neteller(zero fees, free Mastedcard), Ukash, Paysafe card.

I believe the same thing happened to me a few years back, and the way back to a functional PayPal account could be described as Dante's Inferno, plain and simple.

Everything got locked down, my passport wouldn't do, several calls had to be made, submitting information to left and right.

One has to be persistent.
I had plenty of contact with the support-drones (some were even human with feelings!)
Supplying them with passport, regular ID from the bank did help to some extent (scanned and mailed)
They also required official papers on residency, and some paid bills adressed to and payed by me to back up my ID's and such.

If only the buyer / seller protections were this tight with PayPal, I'd be set.

In the end, after all this blew over... Premier account and can shuffle just about all the money I want back and forth without having to upgrade to business. Or at least until it gets flagged again, which I doubt.

Be persistent ;)

You can send money internationally using your bank account - I have received money from a Dutch colleague. Sometimes there are fees and the conversion rate to take into account but it does work.

I think you need the IBAN number and you sort code/account no and it works fine.

Admittedly I prefer Paypal.

What about using NoChex? I have had an account there for years and the fees are lower.

Regarding your Paypal funds which are stuck. Why don't you send your funds to someone you know and then get them to do a bank transfer to you?

Cheers

John

I sent them a high res picture of 3 things..

(1)a goverment issued letter "like a tax return" adressed to my name at this address..
(2) A letter from my bank "bank statment" addressed to me at this address
(3) Birth certificate.

To do this i 1st had to call them and claim not to have a passport, driving licence. or any photo id as it is not mandatory here in the uk.

they then told me that i could upload 2 documents for proof of address and identity. + birth certificate..

These were high res images, They said scanner would be best, but high res images would work..

I think the letters had to be less than 6 months old?

after doing this i was finaly fully verified and had no more income limits on my account..
in my 1st year i reached 98% of my limit with 2 weeks left of the year. so i just waited it out.
in the second year i had reached 90% of my limit in 6 months.
And that meant i had to do something because a lot of my income comes from repairs and stuff like that, and i need paypal to play ball..

so thats how i did it any way..
so if passport wont work try to upload the other files like i did. Dont go over board with the image quality though they only give you so much space to add files.
And after you add them wait 3 working days and then you may need to call them again.

Update on the situation!

I realized my ISA account had a different account number. Typed it in and away we go!
