OK, this gotta be the worst packaging I've received up to date. A hard cover engineering book from Amazon (second hand). What was he thinking? Luckily the book is intact.

A few years ago, the first Vectrex i acquired came packaged in a bin bag. I kid you not: no padding or anything, just stuffed in a bin bag held together by a few pieces of scotch tape. Needless to say it was DOA, and the case had cracks all over the place. :picard

Miraculously the tube was still in one piece. Still have it, in case i ever need spare parts :)

In my case, a moron from Ebay sent me a NeoGeo MV1F inside a crate with no protection. I repeat, none. Fortunately, it arrived in perfect shape and running without flaw. Today I´m still wondering how some people can be so stupid.

I had a vic 20 sent to me where the poster grossly overcharged me on shipping packed in one layer of gray paper. Nothing more. I bought it just becuase I wanted a minty white case. Needless to say, I could easily see the color was as white as it could be.

OK, since you're asking... The 5363 I own was sent to me with barely any protection other than being inside a carton box packed together with a couple of IBM keyboards. To my surprise everything arrived in one piece (OK, a number of keys of course had fallen off the keyboards, but luckily nothing broke in the process) despite the lack of proper protection and the courier guy not being exceedingly careful with the box either.

The 5363 was worth a few thousand dollars back in the day...

A few years ago I bought an A600 from someone on this board(!) and sent it in the original box without polys and bubble wrapped the outside of the box leaving the computer to rattle around in the box. Needless to say it did not work when it arrived and I had to get someone to look at it, it must of been repaired as I don't have it any longer so must have sold it on again. The best bit was when I raised the issue with the seller the response was has the courier broke it? to which I thought forget it, chalking this one up to experience.

Forgive me.. but what is a "5363"? Perhaps an IBM System/36?

Exactly. It's a big, noisy and *heavy* tower system with a custom CPU that back in the day they used to run Java and corporate databases. It's best coupled with a terminal like the 5291 connected with a twinax cable :)

Google it, it's truly a piece for a museum... Here's one starting up:

Worst packaging I had was an N64 years ago. It arrived in a box, but opening it the console, controller and psu were just all together in a plastic sainsburys shopping bag. No padding or wrapping. Amazingly it was ok and worked.

Sorry about this, just some people use their head to wear hat and eat in. I wonder, why don't wrap this book with bag tightly and use some cellotape to fix bag. Done.

The worst I got was an HP thin client bought here. It arrived in a box 3 times too big for it, and 1 sheet of bubble wrap that was not big enough to cover it laid on the top with the power lead thrown in on top of that.

Needless to say I did not work and I got fleeced on the refund and return postage was ruinous. It put me off using amibay for a long time. I still haven't bought big things here since. :(

Bought some thru-hole ICs from a commercial seller on ebay lately. They were sent in a normal envelope and a plstic bag inside, no foam or anything else to protect them. Needless to say, they looked like SMD parts when they arrived as the pins were all bent or broken off completely. Seller didn't even bother answering any e-mails I sent, so I sent a foto of it all to ebay and my money was promtly refunded.

Bryce.

This is a Epson pro 3880.

When you shake the box the printer rattles inside with 2 inches of play all around the item.

I do not wish to give my feeling right now as I value my AmiBay member ship.

That is the advantage of ebay. Is it worth the price premium?? Who knows.

Worst I had, so far: Vectrex (bought as "non-working, for parts") put inside a thin carton box exactly its size, with zero padding.

Somehow, it managed to (mostly) survive the trip. The thin box was torn in several places & the unit's screw hinges broke, but there was no visible damage from outside and after replacing the fuse, it worked :)

When my pair of Dell 2001fp displays arrived they were in a large box and the panels were detached and taped inside paper-thin cardboard boxes. The stands and power supplies were loose in the box. I really have no idea how they still worked and had no obvious damage from the shipping.

My A4000d was in its original box and the box was in bad shape upon arrival. The keyboard and other items were all just thrown in the box with it. At least the seller was kind enough to offer a partial refund and apology saying they didn't know how to package it for shipping.
