Yamaha FB-01
I actually got this on Friday, but I was too excited about my MS-20 Mini and also too busy with moving to get around to mentioning it. It's a multitimbral 4-op FM synthesizer (basically the same sound hardware as in the Sega Genesis; unlike the DX11/TX81Z/V50, no additional waveforms for the operators.) It's actually pretty redundant to my V50, except for one factor: it's supported by old Sierra games (it's the module that forms the guts of the IBM Music Feature Card.) Between this and my MT-32, I'm pretty well set for music options on old SCI titles :)

This should really go in my Freddy 800XL as the mobo is in far better shape than my standard 800XL but the former is still horribly unstable when it's upgraded... and I've only made one functioning New Brain.

Fabrics!

(Ignore the orange stuff - that's just a sample so that I could scope out the shade for a potential future piece. The brown is intended as a backing fabric for something else, and the red is for my current project.)

Been meaning to get an oscilliscope for forever. Finally got around to doing it when a guy on the Vintage Computer Forum had a couple in a lot of stuff he was selling, motivated by the fact that I need one for most of the diagnostics on a keyboard I'm fixing up. Happily enough, it turned out that the guy was already planning a trip out to Duluth, so I got it hand-delivered on Sunday and didn't have to pay for shipping :)

Now I just gotta learn my way around it...

Post here everytime you get something new!

Hey djos, I'm actually pretty disappointed right now as it looks like the last user has put some kind of custom firmware on and operating system, none of the included emulators are installed so I grabbed some of the ones from the Play Store to try.

There's no button mapping software installed, it's missing so I can't even use the buttons, I've sent the seller a message to see if he can give me any tips.

I'm probably going to have to try and restore the original firmware, hopefully that's not too much trouble.

For now I can play some games with a combination of left stick and touch screen but that's not ideal.

I tried Tincore Keymapper which is an alternative but I cant get any screen touches mapped to a button, I'm seeing errors so I guess there's a problem with this firmware/OS.

Pretty bummed out as I've spent all day googling and messing with it.

Bugger, I went looking and this site has the latest official firmware linked:

http://www.willgoo.com/jxd-s7300-dual-core-hd-gamepad2-dual-joystick-lr-buttons-8gb-p-306.html

I was pretty surprised it's only $129 - that's a bargain! If I manage to get a job soon I'll but one as a present to myself assuming you can get yours working as it shod and are happy with it. :)

IBM PS/ValuePoint 433DX/S

IBM PS/ValuePoint 433DX/S

Today I received the IBM PS/ValuePoint 433DX/S I bought online. Unfortunately the box was not packed right so FedEx had to re-pack it. In the process the desktop got damaged: broken power button, damaged bezel, bent rear metal and the CPU was shaken out and all pins bent as well. Fortunately I have been able to repair most of this and it booted up fine to Windows 95. I will turn it into a MS-DOS 6.22 + Windows 3.11 machine eventually. I also need to buy a new BIOS battery. I really like the IBM PS/ValuePoint series because they are IBM quality (dependable, top line components, extremely well documented) and use cell batteries (so no leaking). It turns out this 486 is actually a Pentium Overdrive.

I also bought a Philips 109B CRT today (19"). Which is really cool. It goes with my first keyboard from 1991 that I still have (also Philips).

Extra-special hair-like fur fabric for my current project. I had to import this because I couldn't find any UK suppliers. I can't believe how realistic it is (photographs really don't show it, but it has the appearance of real animal fur - aside, of course, from being green :p) - really hoping that I'll get to use this type of fabric on other projects in the future, now.
