very happy to recieve my new amp today.
its class H but thats fine. its a technics sa-ex100EB-K, i chose it over the 300 because its stereo not 5.1 and produces 100w Rms per channel.
I have been working on my speakers for a while now. and they are still missing the high crossovers, which i need to make (parts in post)
but even then it sounds great.
after using some maths the ohms of my speakers right now come out to 3.9 ohms i cant really crank it up because of the lack of crossovers for the highs but it's great. I now have the volume i was looking for "mainly for the bass"
running with 2x 200mm 70 w passive subs.
should all end up at a nice 30w mid/high with 70w subs,
im a little dissapointed about losing a gfx eq which the fisher has and the technics dosent. but at twice as much power it was a sacrafice i chose my self.
Had to take a crash course in impedance speaker choices cabinet volume and crossover design to get where i am now, and im sure if i concentrate it will get better, but to me atleast the bass is nice and clear i hear it all. and even missing the high end crossover it has good mid and high range "will be better, as they do distort right now when bass kicks in as they are not supposed to be producing it"
My fisher is dwarfed by it.
also it is not passive cooled. has its own fan on the back. which means its an earlier revision that dosent have the issues of the newer revisions where they would go in to safety cut off due to over heating.
over all really happy with my choice this time.
turns out that 50w rms just was not enough for my likeing. it does have a higher THD at ~0.5%-0.8% where as the fishier was much lower at 0.007%.
(limit of a class H amp unfortunatly, to get the efficency up the THD suffers, ideally id like a class A, but id probably need to buy a sub station to power one at the volumes id like to use.)
I really like the fisher but it would have ended up broken if i had pushed it to produce what i wanted it to do. as it does not like impedance lower than 8ohms. and i am not going to subject such a lovely amp to that kind of abuse.
over all spend..
Well i have gone way over budget. the 1st amp i bought i had to sell on to recoup some of the money i spent on the fisher. and even if i manage to sell the fisher at the price i want for it, i will still be way over budget.
I guess i decided to spoil my self.
I had forgotten how much i love a good sound setup, and had subjected my self to listening to music though my tv or monitor speakers. Almost makes me want to cry to think about how long i have been without one of my greatest loves.
