I have an Askania brand stereo microscope in my garage. Got it cheap from eBay because the seller mislabeled it and did not know what it was.
You really need a microscope when doing something like this

Very nice! I may need to get a camera for mine, but I think using my smart phone will work fine. I'll see once I get it working. :)

Just bought this beast today... must weigh over 20kg! You forget how crisp the pictures were on CRT's after using LCD's for so long.

I'd love to get an actual Chrono Trigger cartridge. Very nice!

I'm doing much more surface mount soldering and other component level repairs so I splurged and purchased a very nice microscope. It's really overkill for what I need right now, but I can grow into it and shouldn't need to purchase another for quite some time.

These aren't exactly recent but anyway:

Santa brought me a desktop lamp with a magnifying glass. This should come handy with small things.

I also decided to endulge myself with an S-993 desoldering gun (the light gray one in the picture). Oh I wish I would've had this, when I removed RAM chips from my Spectrums.

very nice! I have all the test gear I need except one of those. no room on my workbench for one either :( need to build a new workbench I think lol!

I managed to get the scope assembled last night, no thanks to the company who makes it. The only paper is a leaflet stating that they like to be 'Green' so you have to download the manual. No problem, I said, I can do that. Except that there is one problem... you need a password to download the manual. :picard

On the leaflet, there's a spot for the password, but it's blank! The leaflet states that you should use the number next to the model number on the packing slip if the password area is blank. I typed in every number that I found anywhere on the box and packing slip but still couldn't download the manual.

So, I called customer service. The lady said to send an email to the information email address and she'd send the manual. So, I sent the email and still nothing! The scope itself is quite nice and very well built, but I'm not at all impressed with the end user experience so far. I'll have to bug them again today to get the manual.

Still, the quality of the scope is very good for the price.

Yup. Crispness, color, contrast, ability to scale to different resolutions without looking like crap...about the only respect in which they don't stomp LCDs flat(-ter) is bulk and power consumption :lol:
 
It looks a nice bit of kit heather but all that money and they can't supply a manual

Hi Heather, did you see the reviews for the scope? Looks like another Amazon customer found a password on the box.

Somebody called Joshua, about two thirds down the page.

The manual is not included. It must be downloaded from the website. To download it you need a password. To find the password, you have to open up the non-manual insert that comes in the box, which tells you to to use the password printed below. If the space below is blank (like mine), then the password is printed on the outside of the shipping box (which I had already tossed). I finally got back the box, and finally found the password *underneath* another label. Argh. After all that, I download the manual and found it to be almost completely unhelpful. Note to AmScope: You make a great microscope, now make a great manual and make it easy to download form the website without a password."

Thanks Ed! I hadn't seen that review but I checked every label and marking on the box and found nothing. :(

They did finally email the manual to me. I don't agree with the reviewer that the manual is unhelpful but it is a bit low on information. I wrote back my feelings about the download process for the manual and the person wrote back saying they totally agreed with me and have been trying to get management to make it easier.

Hi Guys
Few new items for the A1200 and A3000, New case for the 3000 Blizzard 1260 plus SCSI and then to finish it a recaped A3640 for the A3000 so little bit chuffed about those also upgraded my PC with a Radeon 290 from the other bay so now COD is playing nicely again
