Programs with save states ? (not emulation)

I don't want an amiga emulator but a program that allows one to make save states on amiga 500, I plan on getting a hardrive and willing to add anything to make it work. Is there such a program out there? Is it possible? I'm thinking something like game wizard for the dos, or whatever can create save states for those impossibly long games.
