Hm, probably, but I've tested a few without any problems. So what an obvious difference would be if a game runs emulated or with the Emotion Chip?
Not that I played any PS1/PS2 games so far (4+ years) in my PS3, but just talking.
I've bought my PS3 the very first day it was launched (23 March 2007). So CECHA models with the Emotion Chip never released in Europe, but only in Japan or USA?CECHA looks like the best all rounder to go for for maximum features, though the UK is not included in the Region suffix codes. I guess I need to look out for an Import or get one from the far East. Looks like BluRay playback has several constraints which I wasn't aware of either. Thanks again for the brilliant link.
Obvious differences would be more processor overhead possibly resulting in lower framerates / longer loading times, etc.
As for regional releases yes you're right, Europe never saw the Emotion engine, Sony had already decided to remove it before it launched here as it was costing too much per unit to manufacture at the time. If I recall they were taking big losses due to Blu ray drives and had to revise the hardware. As a result we got the original 60GB model running PS2 games with software emulation. It was only about 70% perfect, some game worked some didnt, some kinda worked. ALL ps3s still run PS1 games in software emulation however and pretty much flawlessly.
I had high hopes theyd be putting PS2 support back into the slim model but why would they when they can make you re purchase them?
