There is a rule that says:

If you need more information about the item, you can declare interest and state that it's "pending some further information". Where reasonable, the information requested should be posted in the thread.

Can a moderator please explain why this rule is not being applied?

That's because some people don't read the rules or just ignore them.

A seller is under no obligation to provide more info just because somebody demands it without declaring interest first.

I am not talking about the specific thread you are talking about.

Countless times I read "declaring interest. Pending some question" and not even once, a moderator has said to share it in public in the thread.

If you think that I am wrong, show me only one thread that this rule has being applied or delete this rule.

Maybe because it is more obvious to ask one-two key questions about the item in the thread and depending on answer declare interest or not.
Moreover public answer in the thread about key features will also serve others to make up their mind to declare interest or not.

The rule should be that threads with only word "working" in the description and photo of 200x200pixel should be forbidden.
Really today making a hi-res, good quality photo is no effort. And out of respect for potential buyers the description should be more comprehensive.
After all it is not sold for 5 euro but few hundreds

And about this specific thread, I said to babmar85 to ask his "secret questions" and somebody deleted my comment.
The one who did this, is supporting not to comply with this rule.

Edit: I am trying to answer to @Picard and my answer is considered as a bump. I will answer to you in 17/1/2025 as suggested 🙂
Did I start a sales thread or what?

Not to trying to hijack this post. But I started the following Post on selling over here:

@darefail I get what you are on about. But the thing is, it’s a Sales Thread where yes questions should be asked…. But there should be a “Declared Interest” made first.
The problem I see is you then turn that sales thread into a discussions thread. You are also then bumping and putting more emphasis on that thread. Where it can make it difficult for others selling to make their sales thread stand out.

@Picard. I know where your frustration is on a particular sales thread. I too share that frustration on how that item is being represented. But unfortunately this site does rely on “Trust” between buyers and sellers.

My 2 Pence on this….

@Boing-ball does it makes any difference to declare interest, ask a load of questions and then withdraw?

I am waiting for an answer by a moderator to my very first post about the rule and specifically from the one who deleted my post.

Not trying to take sides. But it’s in the rules….

Also to try and play devils advocate here:

Moderators can't read every thread and every post so things do get missed, if you're particularly concerned about any particularly thread or post you can use the report button to alert the Moderators.

As long as the person asking has their information and can make an informed decision is the most important thing. Of course it's good practice and can be useful information for others if it's posted in the thread.

Why do I find all of these irrelevant to my thread and personally me?
Please explain..

This is not about me posting whatever in a sales thread that I shouldn't (I didn't) but about when someone who declares interest, do not share their questions in public.

I am not trying to say they are. Just pointing out that Amibay in general have rights to remove comments….

Ideally a Mod/Admin may need to explain their decision… or maybe they don’t 🤷🏻‍♂️

Many times, everyone, makes a comment pretending to be a moderator because no one is online, so we are trying to help.

It is not possible that you can't show me just one thread that this rule was applied by a moderator.

Anyway, I am not going to answer any further here. Just waiting to get an answer from the one who deleted my comment.

Thanks.

The important bit to your answer is within your quoted post.

Where reasonable

It's not a hard and fast rule that questions and answers should be posted in the thread.

It's just not reasonably practicable for moderators to use their time over analysing every thread, as I said if you feel a rule has been broken please report the thread in question.

@davideo what does it mean where reasonable?
Which question is reasonable and which is not?
Why this rule has never being applied?
And why you deleted my post?
Happy new year 🙂
(no intention for offence in my thread)

As I said it's not a hard and fast rule - Where reasonable - doesn't make it a rule.

I'm not going to confirm or deny that I deleted your post.
We are allowed to remove any post/thread that we believe does not add anything useful.

@darefail

Got a problem with why I deleted your comment? Then come talk to me.

For the record, you were not involved in the thread with declared interest yet you decided to post about "secret questions". It's a sales thread, not open to chit-chat and assumptions. That's why it got deleted, pure and simple.

Do you still have a problem now it's been explained to you? My PM's are open 24/7/365. Failing that, report it to Admin and see what they tell you.

@miggymad

My "secret questions" comment, was another way to remind the rule but as davideo said it is not a rule, the thread can be archived or not open for further replies.
Be sure that i would have already PM you if you were the one who deleted my post. But you didn't do it. I feel it 😉

To end this thread here.
I will declare my interest first.

pending some further information

In MOST cases that means potential buyer want to clarify shipping and payment details, which are - again in MOST cases - individual for each buyer depending on the destination country, so nothing reasonable to be shared in the sales thread.

If the question asked is not about shipping or payment, in my opinion It is the solely decision of the seller and/or the buyer if the answer will be made available publicly in the thread. For each of us reasonable defines something different IMO.

I will declare my interest first.

just so everyone is aware,,

if a member was to abuse the "declare interest" button to try and "strong arm or squeeze" more information from a seller this is against whatever ethos of Amibay you want to rule on,, rules are here to help and protect members not to wield as a weapon against members,

if a seller sells a CPU with a 200x200 photo
"CPU for sale 060 rv1, $xxx "

that's it, trying to force a multitude of extra photo's, more information , lengthy testing scores and graphs, then your in the wrong forum.

if you feel and others agree not enough info is available that just tough, the item wont sell, simple..

just because a listing doesn't meet a members specific requitements and falls short on that members expectations then get used to being disappointed.

a member can "request" more info but doesn't have to,
a member can declare pending info then PM the seller, if no more info is forthcoming the buyer is quite welcome to withdraw from the sale but it must NOT be used as a method of harassment to a seller trying to threaten with reporting the thread, asking for a MOD's/admins opinion etc.

ALL SALE threads are NOT for any idle chit chat , negotiations or general "I want more photo's and detailed test results, proof its plugged in and working "

not going to happen,. move on.

Edit:-

I've already noted 1 member possibly trying this, demanding more info inc extra photo's and version numbers, for the whole thread to view, be warned I wont tolerate harassment,
some members give VERY limited info in a sales thread and was asked "privately" to increase the amount of info as a suggestion not a rule to help with the sale.
