Hi all, i'm sure we have some belgian members on here.

I sent an item i sold on ebay last week to Belgium via AirSure, fully tracked and insured.

I've checked the tracking and it said delivery was attempted on the 13/01 and a card may have been left depending on the countries postal system.

The seller has now contacted me telling me he hasn't had the parcel, i directed him to royal mail's tracking service and he came back saying they don't leave cards and they've told him that the parcel is being returned to the UK.

Royal Mail says that the parcel is still in Belgium awaiting collection by the buyer.

Anyone mind telling me how the Belgian postal service works and who's right or wrong?

Thanks

Mike

I'm not sure if Belgium is the same as other places BUT if a delivery was attempted and not succesful then it will be at the local post office awaiting collection (usually a card is shoved in the letterbox to say this).

A post office will usually wait for a set period of around 2 or 3 weeks before returning a package to the sender. A simple phonecall from the buyer to the local post office would soon discover if the package was indeed there the collect accordingly.

In our greek post offices, a parcel will remain there for 15 days, then it will be send back to the sender.

Assume Belgian post has sorting offices, have you asked the buyer to contact his local one to see if they have it there?

I've known foreign couriers to attempt delivery but not leave a card and then they either try again or it ends up back where it came from.

In fact this has happened with me in UK with HDNL

All the best.

Steve.

Hi guys, basically the seller says they don't have "while you were out" cards in Belgium and parcels get sent back if not able to be delivered. I understand they get sent back but surely there should be some time period to this and how would he know he has to collect it from the delivery office if they don't leave a card?

I've asked him to contact his local delivery office anyway to see if they have any information.

I'm awaiting an answer now.

I've contacted royal mail and they said its in Belgium waiting to be collected so i know its there, just not sure where.

I was looking for someone from Belgium to shed some light on how the process works.

IT all depends.

You need to check if it is going through normal post office. The normal post office is called "the post". If that is the one the receiver get's a paper in his bus saying he was not at home to pick up the parcel. He has about 2 weeks time to pick it up. If he goes to the post office with his passport and signs for it he should be good. (since it was shipped tracked)

They DO KEEP PARCELS FOR 2 WEEKS. ("de post")

If it is going to another courier you need to check with them! Like TNT rings two times the door and then ships back..

ps: somethimes the service is no good - maybe he needs to go to the post office and just ask! (maybe the little paper did get stuck between some other papers or the wind and rain took cair of it, it has been real bad weather)

ps: if you think you need a dutch speaker, let me know!

Hi jvd, I'm awaiting the buyer's reply at the minute.

Thanks for the kind offer and i'll let you know as soon i know more.
