Adapters for scsi drives are cheap and plentiful. Ask around or search here, i'm sure you will find something.

The classic by default has a 50 pin SCSI header right ?

Probably will do that when it becomes clear what I actually need. I -think- the internal SCSI header is 50 pin. External, of course is the 25-pin D.

Exactly. Then I think all you need is a SCSI hard drive i guess.

I don't know about the Mac Classic but on the SE if the drive is not Apple branded you will not be able to initialize it using the standard HD Setup SC (or something like that) app.

But it can still be done using a modified version of it.

Should've know. :picard

Its no biggie. Just google it. I had problems with the patch which did not work for me but all you need to do is a small modification to it. Only takes a minute. If you get stuck just PM me and i'll send you my modified one.

Thanks! Will do. :D

Dougal, how did you manage to read .bin files in TransMac? Did you convert them to a different format or something?

Which .bin files ? From internet or from the Mac ?

Usually its best to download files that are packed (.sea or .bin.sit etc.)

From Apple's download, the English pack was a .smi.bin and Finnish floppy images were .sea.bin.

.sea.bin are self extracting. Make sure you drag the file from the location it was downloaded to into transmac. DO NOT move the file anywhere from the download location or else it will get corrupted. Straight into transmac on a MAC formatted floppy disk.

Mac formatted? Oh shoot! I guess I have to set up the old birdhouse to get the disks formatted.

It is not easier to simply hook both HDs at same time and do a System moving from one to another?

@rkauer: I really want to do a fresh install on it.

Managed to get the System 7.0.1 images on disks. You need to first use a tool called Stuffit to extract the .bin files and again the .sea files. Then you need to rename the .image files to .img. Then you use another tool called WinImage to write them on floppies.

I booted my Mac with the Disk Tools floppy in the drive. It booted from it and begun to do something to the hard drive. This was interrupted by a disk error. Now I can't boot from the hard disk and the Disk Tools can't find the hard disk no more. I suppose the hard disk decided to kick the bucket. :(

I do have another SCSI hard disk but that's a 68-pin and would need to hax0r it for the Mac.
