Hi all , I've been googling but I'm unable to find a reversed IDE connector which I would like to build a ROM extender with.

If you look at the internal ribbon crimps on an IDE connector they are offset across the rows and pin 1 is on the lower row e.g.

| - - - - - -
|- - - - - -
1

...but I would like to find a connector where the rows are oppsosite ,like this:

1
|- - - - - -
| - - - - - -

Are these made/sold by anyone?

TIA,
Ed.

If you fit the connector facing on the other side, it'll be in the configuration you need... I can't think of any other way as you won't get IDC connectors that work another way around...

Or get a set of pin headers and use two cables with female connectors, and connect 'em together with the pin headers...

You can buy cable and IDC connectors from many places :D

Thanks Chiark,

Unfortunately turning a standard connector around in any direction will not work, it will always give the same result. If I put it on the other side of the cable I'd have to bend the cable back on itself to plug it in, which is also the same. :)

This is actually to move my Fast ATA mk 3 away from the ROM headers to allow room for an Indivision AGA.

Added some pics for reference.

Interesting point about the pin headers, hadn't thought about that. Trying to figure that one out at the moment. I could always solder the wires directly between my strip boards I suppose.

Awesome thinking from both Ed.D and skippy! The only thing i would worry about is the length of the cabling. Dunno how much it would affect the signals...
