Just had a bit of fun with a sales guy from Vodafone.

Apparently, I had been selected to receive a "massive" 25% discount on an Android Tablet, bringing the price down to, lets say a about 4 or 5 bottles of cheap wine a month, for 24 months... a "reward" for being loyal to Voda.

He made the mistake of telling me the make of the tablet - a Vodafone Smart Tab 2, which whilst he was ranting on about how great it was, I was researching on the interwobbles. Yay for reviews.

He said it "had a hd screen" - I told him it didn't.

He said it can play hd movies over the internet. I told him it actually struggles with them.

It's installed with jellybeans (yes, with "jellybeans"). I said nothing.

These constant lies kept spewing from this guys mouth in the hope of making a sale, most of which I managed to respond to in a "you're lying" kind of way.

Finally, he said, despite what people were saying, it was a great tablet. I told him it wasn't - it was rubbish and I wouldn't even pay, say 1 bottle of cheap wine a month for it. (I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 as a comparison)

He finally got the message, and kept me amused for 20 mins.

My experience is that most sales people are wide boy bullsh*tter types :blink:I also found that one sure fire way of annoying them is out right saying it to their face :D They think twice about answering back when my arms are wider than their heads ;)
PC world staff are great to annoy, let them run off their spiel and then rip it apart

Oh, don't start me on those geezers.

One of my biggest bugbears is the "premium" hdmi cables they try push, offering better picture quality and clearer sound for only £... Have these guys not moved into the digital era?

(ok, maybe on long cable runs, but not your bog standard 30cm)

 Yeah the cable thing grates me to!

I'm just sorry for people that boughs a £2 piece for premium prices because someone told "this is a special version that brings moar quality because it magically turns the received crap into fairy gold dust" (or something like that).

So that's why you don't work at PC World any more, Rogerio?

LOL

I've been doing sales for 10 years+ and there are salesmen and there are.. sales pretenders.

Most telesales has 100% commission, no base salary at all. I would be more lucky getting a nice tablet deal at McDonalds..

Oh, I can go one worse than that. Gold-plated TOSlink cables. Because optical fibred really need gold-plated ends...
:overactor:

But they look expensive, that's gotta count for something... Right? :picard

TOSlinks are not really fiber, just plastics... :) And "Gold" just means "Gold paint" :)

Fiber are made of thin glass wires not plastics :)

Getting slow download speed from your modem? Get a gold serial cable http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gold-Plated...=1371628962&sr=1-6&keywords=serial+cable+gold

Wikipedia says different:

An optical fiber (or optical fibre) is a flexible, transparent fiber made of high quality extruded glass (silica) or plastic...

Though you could well be right on the gold paint!

I enjoy reading stories about people who know about computers and say people who don't have a clue like PC World sales team. it should have it's own thread along with Merlock's special tales.

Being in places like Maplins with Scrappysphinx is always a treat, when they begin spewing nonsense the fun starts. So can we encourage people to tell thier stories of sales people who got it wrong.

my favourite was the Dixons £29.99p gold plated HDMI cable when HDTV's first came out. PMSL.
