Hi All,

I've decided to modernize my 3000 a little, and settled on getting one of these SCSI2SD adapters (http://www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=SCSI2SD).

So far, I'm impressed. It's pretty easy to setup with the PC utilities, it's small, and doesn't even need the power connector to run.

I put a 16GB card in it, and just got Workbench 3.1 installed. I set it up as two 8GB HD's and then partitioned it off as a few 2GB and a bunch of 4GB partitions. I'll probably have to try a higher level OS at some point. I also need to do some speed tests, but honestly for just tooling around, it's plenty snappy, and my 3000 runs nice and cool and quieter (next up, quieter PSU fan).

Really interested in the speeds you see with this? When you get a chance could you post the results?

Well, works good. SysInfo however says 1.5 MB/sec. I'm not sure if that's the best test. Just like any SSD type of solution, there isn't any seek time, so random access is way faster than a HD. Sequential might be slower given the speed of the device.. but honestly, it boots fast, runs WHDLoad fast, and that's pretty much all I care about. I'll snap some photos.

It's class 10, but the designer of the scs2sd said it doesn't make a huge difference since this device is basically emulating a SCSI card.

It really is a terrific solution for older machines. I think the max speed it can deliver is somewhere around 2.5mb/s, so if you want more than that there are other (more expensive) options. For the price it really is the best solution out there.

Has anyone tried one in an A590? I'm thinking of replacing my noisy old SCSI drive in my A590.
