Initial thoughts?

Any day one buyers out there or Xbox Game Pass subscribers lol...

Gauging interest for a possible pirate crew if there is enough interest?

played lots of mmorpgs in the past, WOW, KO , Guild Wars, eve online and a few others to pretty high levels,,
Ive got elite dangerous and havent had the time to do my 1st mission.
i just can't commit to a time, is there a single player element ? can you just drop in and out when you get spare 30 mins once or twice a week ?

I've seen the videos and it looks awesome, loads a fun.

I had a go earlier but playing with randoms is painful. The game defo needs collaborative play to make it worthwhile hence the gauging of interest befor I bite...

I only watched a few streamers play it, the atmosphere with a few people who know what they're doing is fun and the weather effects, especially the waves, look IN-FREACKING-CREDIBLE.

Just play this and get on board: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tjdswqGGVg :D

If only this game was on Steam too...

I played a good 4 hours last night. I had not previously looked up much of anything on the game short of watching an initial video from E3 years back.

There IS a solo (but still "online") option and that's what I went with. You get a tiny tiny ship that is manageable by yourself with a bit of an unexplained learning curve.

How the game "saves" (or how to quit on PC) is beyond me. I had tried the game briefly Monday evening upon "launch" and did not start last night's session in the same place. I was glad though because.... I basically crashed into a tower and then helplessly sat there while my boat sank.

Last night I got a commission from the merchant's guild, sailed across the immediately available map sailing up to islands to see what they are. THEN I discovered you can zoom in on the map to see names of islands.. thanks game for explaining that. >.<

The game simply explains basic game engine functionality in the first few moments and that's it... do they expect everyone to have watched demos and tutorials online the past several months?? I don't like to spoil my dinner with too many appetizers.

I've been really interested in this game. Would be great to form a ships crew at some point.

If anyone is interested pop your gamertag below, mine is my username here :)

What did the bad reviews say? I've still not played it yet but all the videos of in-game footage and gameplay videos seem to be positive and looks fun. But you need a good real team to really enjoy it.

It has the No Man's Sky syndrome, thus some people call it No Man's Sea... there's no content!

It really doesn't deserve comparison to No Man's Sky any more than Street Fighter II Turbo Deluxe The Third Coming EX Delta (or whatever the current version is called) does. It's sandbox and multiplayer only so the content is what you make of it. So here's a list of what I make of all three games' "content".

No Mans Sky (not including newer updates):
Lied to about content upon release - didn't really care, didn't pay attention to all that
Explore a whole galaxy
Grind to get money/items
Grind to get to center of Galaxy
Hunt to catalog animals
Try in vain to find a giant snake on a sand planet
Minor "story" regarding mysterious structures in space
Pick Fights with Sentinels (leading up to them chasing you in space if ****ed enough)
Barter with aliens
Diablo-esque finding of upgrades
Complete your knowledge of alien languages
Discover that falling asleep while playing, then dying twice in a row while asleep, yields loss of important items, and then stop playing despite putting 200 (or maybe only 100) hours in to hit the center of the galaxy

Sea of Thieves:
Be a pirate - As a crew or solo (Artemis Starship Bridge Simulator gone a step further)
Explore a relatively small chunk of ocean, but in real time
Find random treasure/quests
Choose and grind quests from one of three factions, 2/3 of which usually involve fighting off skeletons
Have sea battles with other players
Team up with other players
Be a jerk to other players (yes, Sea of Bastards)
Talk like a Pirate in voice chat to other players
Sail to that giant floating Skull cloud to see what the deal is
Sail off the map to see what happens
Start a band with other players
Pimp out yourself and your ship with items (that otherwise have no advantage in the game aside from looking cooler so Hint: you don't need money)
Pretend you're on LeChuck's ship when you die
Drink yourself silly until your character starts projectile vomiting, and then try to walk straight
Get annoyed with the mysterious stranger just telling you to get levels with the three factions... every 5 levels
Stop playing (as much) because the grind is silly random (once joined a crew only to get 1/16 of my meters filled to the next "level" after doing several quests)

Street Fighter Whatever:
Beat up a virtual person/player with silly abilities which can be both infinitely fun and hilarious with another person
Repeat
