Hi all, received a Sega Nomad today. This was purchased and forwarded to me by Skydivingirl. Thank you Heather
So i was excited to receive this and have waited for the post man every day since i was told it had been posted. It arrived this morning and first thing i did was fire it up with a Megadrive II PSU. After a few minutes the power went off and i found i had to wiggle the cable to make it work again. Knowing the cable is fine i opened up the nomad. There was very little solder around the DC jack. Resoldered and power was restored.
I will be replacing the LCD in this machine with a new modern replacement as detailed in a lot of guides around the web but until that arrives from China i thought i'd perform the rest of the mods available for this machine.
Enabling Master System Mode.
This requires you to solder a wire from pin 45 of the Asic chip to B30 of the cartridge slot. The connection points of the Asic are very small but this wasn't too difficult.
Enabling the Mode Button to switch between English/Japanese
This requires you to cut the connection between JP1 and then solder a wire from the inner pad of JP2 to the middle of the mode button PCB. Booting the nomad as normal will start the machine in USA. Hold the Mode Button while booting will switch the region to Japanese.
Once the new screen arrives from China i will update this thread with picture of the replacment.
Thanks for looking
